Hi everyone,

I’m diving into the world of the Omega Speedmaster 105.002-62, and I’d love to tap into the collective expertise of this amazing forum. I know it’s one of the transitional references, but beyond that, I’d really appreciate it if someone could help me better understand its key features, quirks, and what to watch out for when evaluating one.

Here are a few specific things I’m curious about:

  • What distinguishes the 105.002-62 from other early Speedmasters?
  • Are there specific dial variations or markers to look for?
  • Common pitfalls when verifying authenticity?
  • Any fun historical anecdotes about this reference?
  • Market value
I’d be grateful for any guidance, resources, or tips from those of you familiar with this reference. Pictures, stories, or general advice—everything’s welcome!

Thanks in advance, and I’m looking forward to learning from the community.

Hi
Check out speedmaster101 as a starting point.
Speedmaster 101
I did, and I also checked the books I have. However, I believe that owners often possess unique insights that can't be found anywhere else.

Do you have one already or are you on the hunt for one? Why this particular year?

It is effectively a renamed CK2998-62 for the early ones and then mid-way through the production run they went from the alpha hands to stick hands but they still are really a 2998 final variant with a new numbering scheme and not a 105.003.

1962. I have been offered one. The 105.002-62 seems to be a pretty unknown reference given its short 6 month production run. I love the idea of something rare so it is in my bucket list for 2025. I know they made them with baton hands and alpha. Alpha being harder to find. I read of it on Moonwatch only, but I want to be really educated before pulling the trigger.

If you share sharp, detailed pictures from several angles (including back) and if they have a shot of the movement (provided the seller is a watch person and has the correct tools and not a pair of scissors) which will show the serial number and any description the seller is giving- plus the asking price, the group here could most likely tell you if it has the correct parts and if the seller is far off from reality on pricing.

If you’re already familiar with SP101 and MWO it’s probably better to ask direct, concise questions rather than just asking for additional insight.

What are your specific thoughts/queries?

Looks like chatgpt started a thread.
I don't really understand this comment?
If the OP feels a bit unsure about how to write and expressing himself, and maybe does not have English as his first language,
what is the problem?
Lots and lots of people use Chatgpt on a daily basis...

will do but need to ask permission before sharing the photos
That should not be a problem (if the seller is serious)?
Looking forward to the pictures!
