Thanks to the host for hosting this, and to posters for their knowledge.

My late dad’s Seamaster has been in a drawer since 1992. The last jeweler/watchmaker didn’t take seriously the "Fit Washer in Back,” so the watch is kind of a mess—I had it opened last week. What is the “325” inside a shape. What does the portrait profile mean? Why is there a number 116460 with 6 digits instead of in the form xxx.xxx as I see on this forum?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have pictures of the movement? I'm taking a stab that the 'portrait profile' is a gold hallmark.

I think the information request is about this:

1. The Helvetia Head is a Swiss hallmark, denoting 18K Gold.

2. The “352” in the hammer head is a Swiss Responsibility Mark. This denotes the case maker as Serva, SA.

3. The 18K and 0,750 marks are fairly obvious marks for 18K gold.

4. The 2846 and 2848 denote the case reference or model numbers for your watch.

Note that one case reference number might have multiple case metals from steel up through solid gold.

5. The 116460 represents an internal serial number or patent number and is not relevant for this discussion.

For any more information, we would need to see the rest of the watch, including the dial and movement.

Hope this helps,
