SOLD: Longines WWW

My first sales post on here but I've been around a while (yes, it's taken me 4 years to get to 200 posts!) and even longer on tz-uk, plus I'm a moderator on MWR so I have good standing and a fine track record as a buyer and seller. I'm only human though so if you see anything wrong with this or any of my other posts please let me know.

Right, to the watch in question.

It has, I think, three negatives:

First the lume on the hands is crumbling and there are some flakes floating around under the crystal. If I were keeping this watch I'd stabilise the hands or possible even consider a sympathetic relume (is that heresy? I don't know.) A few of the plot wells are empty, too. On the plus side I believe it is the original radium.

Second, someone suggested that possibly the pendant tube might not be original although it winds and sets just fine with a nice positive action when pulled out and pushed in. FWIW the tube seems to be pretty fat @ 3mm and possibly brass (hard to say; could be stainless steel). The fit with the case and crown is good and it looks original but I couldn’t say for sure. I do know that the crown was supplied by John Senior. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it.

Third, there are some dings and scratches on the bezel and caseback. Nothing terrible and no more than I would expect. In fact, I would say that overall this watch is in very good condition. But I wanted to mention the wear and tear as I'd rather undersell something and have a happy buyer.

Anyway, all of that is by of full disclosure. Honesty and accuracy matter a great deal to me and I want to get this right.

OK, the good news.

Long lugs with fixed bars.

Matching numbers.

Markings all look good.

Movement is clean and keeping great time. (I believe this is the only WWW with a shockproofed balance?) It was was serviced Micheal Swift on Isle of Bute.

Dial is lovely. Looks completely untouched and original.

The case is just great: the largest of the 12 WWW at 38mm and it wears big: it's up there with the Dennison "56" / Smiths GS for sheer chunkiness and heft.

It's on a NOS "V.B. Hygienique" strap that is included in the price. Fits my 7.5" wrist with one hole to spare. If you don't want the strap then I can sell it without. I believe the VBH straps are more or less contemporaneous with the watch and they look bloody brilliant together but your call.

You will notice and appreciate that I have managed to get to the end without saying "Gr**nl*nd*r" or "D*rty D*z*n" so that's got to be good, right?

Apologies as usual for the poor pics

@Revo I can assure anyone who doesn't already know is a great guy to deal with. I have had the pleasure to deal with him on many occasions over the years and he is certainly one of the finest 👍
