Good afternoon all, hope everybody's doing well.

Recently i've been looking at the longines legend diver reissue. They are really handsome pieces especially the no-date variants and affordably priced as well!
At a size of 42mm, i'm slightly concerned because i do not own anything larger than 40mm.

i would like to know what you guys think about the watch especially proud owners of them!

IIRC, they are coming out with a 39/40mm one this year in Basel 2018

I don't think so, but there is 36mm version that was revealed at Basel 2018 that might be worth checking out.

OP - I own one and I absolutely love it. I think it wears quite well for its size, sure the lugs are long but they curve around the wrist nicely. My wrist is around 6.5" for reference. It is currently in @Jwit's possession actually, perhaps he can chime in as well. I'm sure he will agree that it is amazing in the metal.

I am afraid I disagree with the above. I have a 7.25" wrist and the long flat lug to lug profile just didn't feel great on my wrist. Everyone is different and what didn't work for me may for you but I sold mine after about 6 months. Try before you buy. If there is a 36mm then that may be worth a look but if the SMP in 36mm is anything to go by, the hands may look stumpy and the dial cramped in that size.

btw to the OP you missed the boat on the no date. They stopped making them about 3-4 years ago and they now trade at about a 30% premium over the with-date model second hand.

Lovely watch but on my 7.25 wrist it was a no go for the same reason. This may not be a factor on other 7.25 wrists.

It's funny because to me it actually feels better on my wrist than something like a Submariner which has no curvature to the lugs whatsoever and just sits on the wrist like a slab of metal. If you look at the LLD's side profile the lugs bow downwards significantly.

But like you said it's different for everyone. Definitely try before you buy! The date model is regularly available in boutiques to try on and goes for around $1500 on the used / gray market. The no date version will run you around $2k or so nowadays. They pop up intermittently if you keep an eye out.

I wrote about my experience trying it on here. Sadly, it just wasn't for me :(

I had one and sold it to keep body and soul together. It didn't bother me on my 7" wrist. I really enjoyed it. I guess it all depends on your perception. After all, you're wearing it for your own pleasure.

    Cheers,

As someone who has just acquired, a Breitling Navitimer World……@ 46mm

    I bloody love it !

Most of my modern era, ( post mid ‘60’s ) watches……Rolex GMT, Universal Geneve Compax, Heuer Carreras, Pre Moon Speedmasters, Omega Flightmasters, Rolex Datejust… have generally been around 36mm - 42mm

However a quantum leap, into a bigger size is enthralling, & a lot of fun !!

I have big 8” wrists…so it does not work for everyone

Buy it and try it ?…you will have no trouble moving it on,…if it is not, to your liking

7.25 inch wrist and mine worked well for me. I sold it as I had a brain fart and planned to go exclusively with Omega. I changed that plan, but otherwise I would have kept it. I thought about buying it again, but now I have too many Omega watches, and not enough wrists or time to wear the Omega watches that I own.

There is also an all black legend, I have not seen it, just read about it.

I would much rather go with the original release.

I think wrist shape plays a large part in how you find the lugs. I tried it on and it didn't feel right on my 6.5 in wrists, curvature or no. I agree with others though, very nice in the metal.

Longines Legend, together with the early Omega SM300 references and the Breitling Super Ocean, is the most kickass of all (vintage) divers, IMHO.
But, like the above mentioned, may only now be affordable to us mortals in heritage reissue.
Of the three, I'd take the 1957 Omega SM300 reissue as, besides the body (case, dial, hands, etc) being reborn well, the movement (the new Omega coax) is pretty good. The generic ETAs in the other two, OTOH, just don't excite me all too much...But, that's just me.

Having seen this, I like both the with date and without date versions. I like the dial design, a fresh breath of air from other typical diver designs

Apologies. Wrote that without checking really. But I knew Longines was doing a smaller version of the monster you have :)

Same my 7 inch wrist can barely hold this one :(

I had one. Loved the look of it, but didn't balance well on my wrist. Agree with above, depends a lot on the shape of your wrist I think.

I have a 6.3” flat wrist and currently have @Kmart LLD on loan. It is a peculiar shape and has very long lugs. I have found that it feels fine but looks a bit large on me. Generally black dials wear smaller than white dials but I think between the glossy dial and chapter wrist it looks a bit bigger. Definitely something you should check out in person because pictures do not portray it well. Here are some shots I’ve taken with it....

Slightly different angles here, but a Speedy pro for comparison on my wrist
