This is not a criticism of the watch, more and expression of disappointment. I think the LLD (date or non-date) is one of the best looking of all modern watches. It stands out in a market cluttered with lookalike divers, chronos, bland three-handers etc. and for that reason it's been on my radar for a while.

So today, I had some spare time and popped in past a dealer to try one on. I strapped it on and took a few seconds to appreciate the aesthetics. Very quickly, the realisation hit me. I just can't live with the lug length :(

I don't have pipecleaner wrists, measuring in at about 7 1/4 inches, but the overhang was just too pronounced. I recently bought a Magtette Dual Time that has a 42mm cushion case and measures 50mm lug to lug and that fits me fine (as per photo). The extra 1mm(ish) and the straightness of the Longines lugs is just too much for me. It's a real shame, because everything else about it ticks the boxes. It's just that one bum note regarding the lugs that throws the whole melody off.

I suppose there is a salutary lesson here about trying before you buy whenever possible, and I'd still recommend the LLD to anyone with wrists wide enough to take it. However, sadly, that won't be me.

    Onwards and upwards

Didn't take shots at the dealers, but the overhang was just too much for me to live with. I suspect that I could have lived with it happily if the lugs had more of a curve.

That's a shame - not only is it a beautiful watch, it's a well priced watch too.
It's a piece that I've been paying attention to recently and having roughly the same sized wrists as you it could be an issue for me as well.

I've just been looking at some Google images and the wrist shots do show the lug lengths to be longer than the norm. I'm in Birmingham on Saturday and, if I get the chance, I'll try it for myself.

Definitely try it on.. I've got about 7.25 in wrists too, but I don't mind the lug length at all... wrist shot later tonight.

...and go for the non date one if you can.

Bingo. If I didn't have a chance to try on the GO Panomatic at a Philadelphia dealer, I would have made one VERY expensive mistake as it just looked too clumsy on my wrist for such an elegant watch.

@Mouse_at_Large, thanks for starting this thread.
The LLD ticks, or should I say ticked, alot of the boxes for me as well and it's a watch that's been on my list for awhile. That said, there are few things worse than getting a watch you've wanted for a while to only find out that it doesn't quite fit the way you had hoped it would. Thanks for saving me that inconvenience and for posting your experience.

Thanks for the appreciative comment. However, the core message is in the last paragraph. My experience may not be the same as yours and in your case I'd not write off the LLD without trying it on.

7,25 inch'er here also.... and also had doubts about lug length....
The important issue is also which strap you use on it IMO
On normal straps (unless they have a somewhat thick end) I don't like the "overhang" of the lug ends, mainly because the lug holes are placed closer to the case than many others... but on a perlon the fit is snug and great ... on my wrist anyway.

Same thing happened for me when I tried it on. Much the same with a lot of the modern Longines sadly. That and of course the date on all the historical models.

Thanks to @Mouse_at_Large for coming through to prove that my mind was not slipping.

I guess there's more variation in wrist shape and anatomy than you'd think for a couple of bones covered in meat and gristle.

I've been eying this off for a while too.

I also have 7.25 inch wristsnad it seems to fit fine.

I notice in the shots above that vaious folks have posted a flat vs rond profile to the wrists involved.

Picture may be worth a thousand words, but trying it on in real life if worth so much more than either.

I'd so to those who've now taken it off the list, don't despair and go try it on.

If it doesn't fit, then there's the Kiwi alternative, I guess.

I sold mine in 2013. I have 7.25 wrists and it fit me perfectly fine. This is one I would purchase again, but without a date.

With 6.0" wrists it looks like I'm forced to strike this one from my "one day" list. Too bad. Beautiful watch. Thanks for the info OP
