@Rumar89 Thanks for the update! Argentina makes sense. Both central and south America seemed to have a penchant for striking designs.
... and Poland got the oversize pieces....

I was watching Carmel on Netflix the other day (Argentine true murder mini-series) and my girlfriend remarked that their Spanish sounded different. The inflection to her was more sing-song.

Turns out, the majority of Argentines are of Italian descent. So your initial guess of Italy/or wasn’t too far off the mark. It’s that Sprezzatura.

Hi guys, longines made some superlatives Watches in the 40s... and I would like to go into more detail on this matter. Any suggest about books/links or something else to help me on this way?

"Calatrava" is a very classical case design with a flat bezel that is associated with Pateks Ref 96 invented in the early 30´s . These watches were only 31mm in diameter. Talking about Longines watches with this particular look and the flat bezel there are very few models in existence which mainly date from the late 30´s to the mid 40´s. Longines produced some of them with 37,5mm big cases. According to their dials there are tremendous differences in value and rareness of these early watches with the flat bezels compared to the 50´s Longines watches (which still exist in large numbers with "normal" styled bezels).
Amongst the nicest and rarest "Calatrava" style Longines are the super rare Military Serbians, perhaps this blog is of interest for you:

Interesting, I had not considered the link between Italy and Argentina. I think that Italy was an important market for Longines during the '30s and '40s. Many chronographs and attractive time-only watches were originally invoiced to Ostersetzer. On the other hand, many Italian collectors seem to have a particular fondness for Longines so maybe the relative number that appear on the internet are not representative of the total production.

Longines ref. 5056 delivered to Baume & Co. in 1947. I always loved this dial variant with the brushed ring and the Roman numerals. So happy I finally found one

Congrats on finding a real beauty! ☺️

I am not sure if any one mention reading Godlberger book Longines, the first one and the last re-edition. I will give you a thrill to see what Longines did in the 40'

Definitely beautiful Tony!
It is on my taste... a little too small but very nice.
What I’m looking for is something like that;

Hope you have found what you were looking for.

Here's mine, model 5015 with 12.68z inside, from 1944

Astonishing lugs on that 5673! 🙄 Can we see inside the case?

I would be interested, as well. The dial is not right.

I’m not sure why but the lugs on the middle one remind me of the feathers on the head of a certain type of eagle. I tried to google it but can find no pictures which confirm what my mind sees. Maybe I’m making things up again.. 😁
