I admire the 30L family of movements. The chronometre grade is intriguing but, is this really one of the more uncommon chronometer movements? I am not familiar enough with this one to recognize any differences in the movement.

The dial is sad.

I wonder what the Longines specifications for this calibre are, that mean that they optimistically call it a chronometer! I am looking for some features that I expect to see on a chronometer, that I don't see on this one. Among the features I don't see is a seconds chapter ring for the sub dial. I don't see a micrometer regulator. I don't see any notation on the movement as to adjustments. It appears to have a steel hairspring, but the balance wheel doesn't appear to be equipped for temperature compensation. The dial is of a design I don't expect to see on a chronometer. Aren't they using the chronometer appellation a bit liberally? Maybe there's more than one definition for the word chronometer!

This is a relatively early caliber 30L with a shortened regulator tail that is indicative of chronometers from this era. However, I believe that an alternate(?) balance wheel should also be present.

I vote 'Yes' but we will have to wait for @Tony C. to verify.

In the meantime, check out this link: http://longines30l.com/wordpress/

Why is the balance bridge of a different color ?
That is what striked me first.
Chronometer means that it had a chronometer certificate, not that it had a luxury finish or any special feature.

Yes, it is a correct movement. There are a few differences from the standard 30L, but the easiest "tell" is the regulator tail. On the chronometre versions it is truncated in order to accommodate the Breguet overcoil hairspring. Also, note that the wing on the balance cock is shorter. You can see the differences between the standard (first) and one of my Flagship chronometres (and the one in the original post):

Oh, and here's one with a nice dial. Not easy to find.

Thanks much Tony C. for providing the detail and photos of another example!

I'd have been tempted to keep the auction to myself in the vain hope that no one would see it but for the dial's condition. I still might look in on it again on the last day but the price has moved since this thread was originally posted.
