Little Help With This Little Oyster? (Updaed with Result)

Hi, all-- I am shopping for a gift for my step-mother. She has always wanted one of these two-tone oysters at around 31mm. Trying to spend around $5k. I am not deep into Rolex, though, so would appreciate any advice.

Found this one for sale in the ballpark. I can't really find fault with it. Any red flags? Anything I should ask specifically about it? It's for sale on Chrono24 by a Florida Jewelry store that seems to move a lot of watches. They offer a two year warranty (although I am not in FL). Could buy via C24 or direct.

I don't think this is new, the logo is almost completely polished off of the clasp.

I think the bracelet has had some hard use and polishing. Watch looks fine. I’d want to see a whole lot more pics of the bracelet

Tell her that a self-winder (automatic) operates best on the wrist of an active person. As in, athletic, busy, with projects that require a lot of activity. Worn as an occasional, part time watch, it will spend a lot of time run down, and will require manual winding. Maybe this watch might be suited to her, but it needs to be considered.

Thanks for the feedback, all. I had not even looked at the clasp I was so focused on the head. Is there anything else I should ask to see? Serial numbers? Etc?

Clasp is overpolished and watch is overpriced.

I would pass and maybe consider an older one with a more classic dial.

One of my pet peeves is picture arrays with the watch floating in space, somewhat overexposed so that various details are missing.

It look okay and probably is. The bracelet is definitely not new but apart from the polishing looks in good condition.

Can’t help on value, sorry.

Thanks for the replies. I have been torn between something later like this vs. earlier. It's hard to find earlier that fits all the criteria in good condition. Closest I have found so far is this one below. Looks to have had a bit of polishing, especially noticeable on the upper left lug. But the price is much better and the design more classic:

It's listed as the same size, 31mm. But I have not contacted the seller to confirm anything about it yet.

Tough choice, those are very different watches. The second one strikes me as a more vintage look.

Gray or silver dial? Smooth bezel or not? Solid or folded link bracelet?

Best try to figure out what your stepmom would prefer, I suppose.

She likes all of the above. The criteria are size, two tone, no roman numerals, oyster bracelet, silver or light gray dial. Good, original condition and fair price.

She would be happy with either of these two models. One issue with the newer one is how dark the dial is in real life--she doesn't dark. A light silver or light gray only.

Still hunting but still considering these two options. Just not sure what is reasonable to expect condition-wise for the more vintage era pieces. If this is as good as it gets, then maybe this is a fine choice. So far I haven't seen many better but I haven't been hunting that long yet for one of these...

Hi, folks-- I have found one that fits all the criteria and I'm ready to pull the trigger. I'd appreciate some extra eyes on it before I do. Pics are washed out so it is hard to see all details, but to me it looks good to go. No pics inside case or between the lugs--not sure if I need them in this case as it is a C24 listing with 14-day return?

To add: one question I had was how to tell if the combo of fluted bezel on this watch is original. The ref is given as 67513 but the ladies codes seem to be all over the place and I’m having a hard time verifying that feature. Appreciate any feedback on that.

Sorry to go a little off topic, but still don’t understand why people kept the hologram sticker on the back of these watches and wore them until it is a green, sticky mess. And some people will pay extra if that sticker is intact. First thing I’d do is get that off.

But I also see a lot of young men wearing the suit labels on the sleeves or tags on their baseball hats. So it must be a “thing”

I’m not expert on ladies’ references (originality), and I’m with you about the pictures—I absolutely hate that photo style.

You can see that the bezel on that one has lost its sharp edges. And the logo on the bracelet looks thin.

But overall, you’ve posted reasonably good examples of good looking used watches that anyone not obsessed with collectibility details would be happy to have. Since it’s the dial and bezel that your stepmom would be looking at, maybe you could offer her a few of the pictures and let her have a look? The main choices are in the dial (numbers, batons, grey, silver) and the bezel (fluted, smooth).

We all tend to have our personal preferences on these things. There are lots of these watches available, and so once you’ve got those things sorted out, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a nice one that matches her preferences.

This is pretty far out of my wheelhouse so I can't pretend to give knowledgeable feedback, but the watch looks attractive and I don't see any obvious concerns. I assume you'll have it checked out for authenticity when it arrives. Since you know that she likes TT OPs, your step mother will undoubtedly love it.
