This scotsman says a bargain! Well done.

Now if it made a Yorkshire man happy that would be something 😉

I would probably have bought this fun piece if it hadn't been in the US:

Those numerals look great 👍

My vintage watch collection started with a number of Hamilton and Tissot watches, many of which were purchased for less than or just over $50. These two brands offer great value and fantastic designs (IMO). Here’s a few from my collection that were purchased for a bargain.

That Tissot is yummy.
I would LOVE to find one like that for $50!😀

One of my better but riskier purchases - the photos in the listing were quite poor, the crystal was cracked and there were no pictures of the mechanism. Turned out to be a fantastic watch that dates back to the 1940s, powered by a cal. 27-2 (pictured) and a very cool red second hand dial.

No risk, No reward. I had similar luck with a couple of Seikos for under $50.

I absolutely adore this thread because as a vintage collector this is what I enjoy doing, when i am having my breaks between lunch or after a long day. It is one of reason why I enjoy vintage watches because I believe in its value, which cannot be judged based on its price tag.

Just sharing a couple of mine: pasting some pics from my instagram @ClarendonVintage Was glad to have bidded/negotiated these watches to below $50 and I've had quite some luck meeting some very nice sellers who kept them in great conditions too.

The hunt never stops

How is the HMT treating you ? My grandfather had one and I feel so disappointed that its lost. HMT which was and Indian watch company is now defunct.

I've had that HMT for some time and it was traded away earlier this year. Nifty little piece, looks like it's worth much more. It was indeed one of the traditional indian companies

I love this thread and I’ve been thinking.....”I’d love to take part, but never get the time to search!”
But today, I managed to find a couple of spare hours and found this, in a local antique shop amongst the old ashtrays and costume jewellery. The crystal is cracked and scratched, a small wild animal has had a go at the LHS of the Case, but it ticks and I like the dial.

Bentima Star a Swiss Made (Twice signed on the dial- why?))watch guessing at 1940s early 50s 36mm - I think there might even be a movement, with who knows, some jewels of some description beating within. Nice old pigskin strap.
Twenty Six English Pounds and zero English Pence!

Happy!😁

Could be an A. Schlid movement inside. A post about a similar watch:

More information about the Bentima brand here:

Nice find!

Thanks @gatorcpa for sharing the knowledge. Those links were interesting. I’ll try and pop the back and have a peek at the movement when I get the chance. That could be interesting. A.Schild, Edox, Oris or maybe ETA?
For now let’s see how much poly Watch it takes to make that crystal half decent.

Edox was a watch brands that used generic AS or ETA movements. Oris had mostly pin-pallet movements back then.

The case and lugs look identical the 1948 President I listed in the first post. Great dial and numerals.
Someone should shoot the seller an offer of $30 and BUY THIS!

I did, will have some photos once it arrives (with a couple of other Bulovas...)

Tip - sometimes people will misspell one letter in eBay listings and that is all that is needed for something to lose a lot value - but be a bargain for you. This was listed as a "Vintage Swiss Made Helbros Cronograph wrist watch" with no movement picture and the description "watch works and that's all I know about it..."

Final bid was $76AUD ($58USD!) Will definitely need a service, however can't go wrong with a black dial and Venus 188 movement :> Keep up the hunting!

The paint on the Tissot, is the dial original? Some of the '2's aren't very consistent...
