This seller is so full of shit. I'm putting a link to this Zodiac. What a PILE! Check out his other watches. He also has a beat up lady Desta gold plate for $695. Not even work $5. Schmuck.
This a public service announcement of what seller not to buy from.

Their website is comical. Here's a sample:

Repairs

For example, if you have vintage Rolex watch from the 1970s that needs any of the following services such as a cleaning, overhauling, polishing, etc., the company would typically take up to 4 to 6 months to repair it and their estimate would be enough and astounding figure of up to $2,000. Instead, we can do the same repair of cleaning and servicing, and give you a one-year guarantee in writing. In most cases, we can do the repair in one or two days at an incredible price of $95 plus parts, which in many cases is a 95% discount from what they would charge.

That and many other watches are over 2k and the store is in the USA. No joke, why are these not under the ebay authentication guarantee? I really don't understand their policy.

Now THAT is an interesting question! This would fall under the umbrella- or are they being exclusionary about brand now? Or vintage? If they are saying Zodiac isn't good enough for them to be on their Champaign room list- then I'm going to feel really hurt 😒

@JwRosenthal this is a questionable thread drift.
There’s an entire thread dedicated to prices with unrealistic expectations, and in fact nobody was posting watches from the sales forums here presumably to spare sensitivities. So that entire thread is Ebay listings.

I know, and was planning to posts it there, but found it uniquely appropriate to the pricing of well documented skin diver post I had made earlier. I thought it was good for a chuckle at nobody's expense on this forum since the thread has gone fairly serious.
Apologies for taking the thread off topic.

this is a questionable thread drift.

If it wasn't for thread drift there wouldn't be much in the way of fun discussions and threads will only be a page or two. I seriously doubt the target watch owner of this thread could care, and even if he does it's not like there was any chance of getting his price to begin with.

You’re probably right. It was bumped yesterday with no price drop.

He’s not a particularly active member, if you check out his profile. I assume he has no idea...

So this is a fun one to make fun of and luckily not on our FS section otherwise is would totally shame this schmuck:

That guy's an absolute clown. I want to ask him who does his appraisals and comes up with something like 10x the actual value lol.

I don’t expect to recoup any of my service costs on my watches. And that would be true even if I had service paperwork.

Proof of servicing makes it easier to sell a car. But, it doesn’t always lead to getting more money for it.
This very much depends on the value of service vs the value of the car.

a) A 2 year old car worth ~$50,000 wouldn't see a difference if you do a $1000 service, Of course...

b) A 60 year old car stored in a back yard for decades with with a good body and an engine 'not-running', bought for $5,000 could easily be worth $10,000 if cleaned up, serviced and made road-worthy once again.

Most of the watches I've bought and put money into servicing were vintage (>40 years old...?), they looked good on the surface but the movements required significant repair to get them in proper working order again. These are like example b) above, yet many watch-collectors would tell you the service adds no value... strange.

You’re right. But, I’d argue that (a) is service and (b) is restoration. Restoration is normally recouped on resale, to one degree or another. Service is only sometimes.

I try not to buy watches that need restoration. But, I would expect to recoup some restoration expenses on resale (if the restoration was successful).

Of course, I get that there’s a sliding scale between service and restoration.

For the sake of our love of photos, here’s a really rare car, just listed on eBay, that I have strong lust for.

I have a thing for 30’s Buicks, with their straight eight, overhead valve engines. This body style was in its last year in 1936 and very few were made. In over twenty years of following cars on eBay, this is only the third I’ve seen.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/274593929467

I’m certain that the total cost of this restoration is very unlikely to be recovered.

To add to the amusement, I’m pretty sure this is the same car, sold last month, for less money. Looks like somebody cleaned it up.

Sigh. Sorry I missed it the first time.
