Yes quite right! No offense to Cartier! I meant Chanel.
That is a surprising stat. I wonder how many of the watch sales were that item and nothing else or multiple item sales?
(That Serpenti is $5,000! Take 2!)

Lol, I interpreted your budget “Oh...budget...a quarter of a million but not half a million.” as in USD. On hindsight you're probably talking Yen. The watch pictured - with the diamonds - was a mere 😉 $16,800.00 CAD so I thought I was being thrifty! The nicer gold metals go to $30,000 - $50,000 USD and the upper ends you need to call in for pricing.

Hmm... interestingly, there's affordable steel diamonds ones going at $5,000 USD.

The Cartier Tank would get my vote, I’ve seen a couple of my clients wearing them and they look classy. The blue hand really pops.

Watches with solar charging, such as the Citizen Eco-Drive would be handy, but I don’t believe any higher end brands have similar movements.

The smaller Rose gold 5200024 is a good colour and size for her.

The leather starts stiff but then becomes very comfortable over time.

Congrats!

And now Cartier is all the rage among the vintage watch collectors on Instagram. Louis Cartier created the tank watch for a famous aviator - Santos Dumont - in the 1900s. That settles the question of the historic legacy, « why a Cartier watch » etc etc.

If the quartz battery has to be replaced every 2 years, how much would the servicing cost in the comparison to a mechanical, say over a 10 year period of ownership?

Where I live a battery change costs about 8 to 10 euros. So we’re talking 50 euros over a period of 10 years.
I would think in most of Western Europe/ UK/ North America and Australia servicing costs range from twice to 8 times that for a time only watch.
It would be much cheaper in Central Europe.... but batteries might be too.... no idea about Asia.

Servicing costs of quartz watches are also generally much cheaper, with new movements often swapped in. However, an OB recently told me that after every second battery change a new movement would be installed as part of the service cost, which at about US$550 is significantly higher than just swapping out a battery.

I also once took a La Grande Classique in for a new battery only to be told that it needed a new movement, not just a battery. This has turned me off quartz and I tend to look for only mechanical watches at the moment. This article was interesting though http://www.troisanneaux.com/opinion/quartz-cartier-a-faux-pas-or-a-match-made-in-heaven/

Odd statement by the OB. I’m not aware of any such policy. If there’s a problem with the movement it would be replaced, but I don’t believe that there is a mandate to replace it outside of that.

Yes that’s what I was afraid of with Omega quartz.
I have been looking at the 27mm Prestige for my wife but I’ve heard it can be pricey to maintain.
Other one in contention is the 26mm Tudor Clair De Rose which is both cheaper and mechanical.

Maybe the OP could add the word « Cartier” in the title because the brand is clearly ready for Primetime among collectors?
Here now a post from Bulang and Sons no less.
After so many years of neglect the hype is now full on.
Ladies know best, we’ve always liked Cartier for its classy elegant offerings 😉
