Lady's quartz vs mechanical.

Yes quite right! No offense to Cartier! I meant Chanel.
That is a surprising stat. I wonder how many of the watch sales were that item and nothing else or multiple item sales?
(That Serpenti is $5,000! Take 2!)

Trust me - if your wife prefers the simplicity of quartz, buy her a quartz watch. You are throwing money away buying a mechanical watch If she never wears it. My wife has several watches, some mechanical, but her go to watches are an Omega Aqua Terra, a Cartier Tank Solo, and a Precista Chronograph (all quartz).

She has one Steinhart automatic diver that she wears occasionally, but always gripes about having to reset it and wind it because it has run down. She never even bothers to set the date. I gave her a winder and she never remembered to put the watch on it.
How's the Aqua Terra? Sunburst dial?

My wife has worn the same watch for almost 40 years, which is well before I met her. It’s a Cartier mechanical that her Mom bought her as a teenager. She always says to me “why would I ever want anything else” So, +1 for Cartier...especially since it means I get 100% of the new watch budget!
The Solo in rose gold is very nice!
I dunno how she'd feel about wearing a gold watch. J ladies wear silver wedding rings not gold. But the steel tank is also nice.

No need for gold... this is steel, quartz and 20 or 25mm I believe?

Whether she prefers the Omega Aqua Terra is very much a matter of trying it on the wrist.

I have no connection to Cartier or Hermes, but I’m a woman and was completely uninterested in watches for most of my life, yet found those beautiful and classy with their streamlined design. In the end watches are pieces of jewelery.

No, it’s one of the older models with the vertical lines. It’s a very nice watch and looks great on her wrist. I think it’s a 28mm case.

I'm a bit surprised about the majority dismissal of Omega quartz ladies watches in favour of Chanel, and Cartier. Am I missing something?
Is buying someone a square watch risky?
Romans might be an annoyance. Not sure I'd enjoy a Seiko with Grass Script numerals.
The Mondaine and Tissot are both white dialled.
Anyone had an MOP dial? Aqua Terra?

I find the current iterations of Omega's ladies watches to be a bit "blingy" for my taste. I don't think there are very many, especially of the smaller variety, without diamonds. But that's just personal preference.

The Cartier, Hermes, and Chanel watches all have versions without diamonds.

My wife is not a fan of diamonds on watches either - too blingy as you say...

Likewise for me.

My wife wears a quartz mid size Seamaster and the mid size is perfect. She’d also find a mechanical watch and utter pain too.

This is the kind of thing I was thinking about originally.
Thinking about all the recco's for Cartier I really considered it but to be honest the Tank has always struck me as having a slightly claustrophobic dial.
I don't think this particular Seamaster is blingy despite the 4 diamonds although what Archer and others said is certainly true in a lot of cases.

I feel one thing many Watch Brand websites get wrong is not showcasing the watches more "natural perspectives", which Hodinkee and now many enthusiasts sites do well. Have a read and suggest also showing your wife, Six New OMEGA Watches, As Told By The Women Of HODINKEE to see what she likes there.

And here's a better pictures of the 28mm Quartz Seamaster Aqua Terra of the Seamaster... these are a bit overdone, but the best I could find on Google.

Thanks for all the additional pics and info Phamti!
Your comment on 'natural perpectives' and Syrte saying watches are jewellery reminded me of how nice the Oyster case and the Speedie case look from the side as opposed to most other cases. I think the Aqua Terra case has something of this.

If looking for quartz women's watches, may I suggest one of the myriads of Rado ceramic watches? They come on ceramic bracelets in a multitude of shapes and finishes. Very, very cool watches I have always thought 😀

Rado Ceramica!! Nice idea! I really hadn't thought of Rado. She is certainly quirky enough to enjoy that look! Obviously I'll be taking her up to Nakano to look at the Omegas & Tanks and will add Rado to that list.

Have you considered a Grand Seiko quartz with the thermocompensated 8J movement? They are readily available from Japanese sellers (used to be available in the US, but I didn't see them on the US website).

I hadn't but will investigate. It is double my budget. The issue with GS, Cartier and Rado is if they are so great then why do I only have Omegas? (And DK101 beater.)
She looks at my '57 300 reissue and sees the same hands as the quartz Seamaster etc.

Many thanks to those who pushed me towards Cartier esp Syrte whose recco of the Pink Gold Tank Solo proved to be right on the money! In the process of locating one in Tokyo now.

Glad to hear you’re making progress and thank you for keeping us posted!
I did suggest the Cartier tank but @phamti gets the credit for posting the pink gold solo 😉

Yes thanks also to phamti!
Cartier Takashimaya are advising September price increase. They didn't know how much.
