"I don't wear a Tank to tell the time. In fact, I never wind it. I wear a Tank because it's the watch to wear."
    - Andy Warhol (talking about his famously broken/unwound Tank)

The Cartier tank has been found on some of the classiest wrists of our time, because it’s a damn classy watch! And this rare red dial mechanical hand wind example is a whole slice of sweetness!

    YEAR: late 1970s

DIAL: Truly the star of the show! Not only is it the rare red version, which, as you can see, goes from bright coral red in direct light to a more subtle bordeaux, it is a thing of beauty. Add to that the awesome spidering effect that you can see in the lacquer when it catches the light, and some spackling throughout, it has aged into a one-of-a-kind piece of wrist art!

CASE: This is the vintage men’s version, measuring in at 23.5MM x 30.5MM. A small and classy watch, equally suitable as a midsize or unisex swatch. Pictured on my 6.5 inch wrist, it wears beautifully. The Vermeil case, a Cartier staple of gold over sterling silver, has wear throughout, as to be expected given the age (and shown here extremely magnified in direct light with a macro lens) on the wrist it presents beautifully. All original and unpolished, with absolutely none of the chips or cracking to the gold so often seen on these. And of course, that original crown with it’s classic blue cabochon!

MOVEMENT: Another bonus, it’s the mechanical hand-wound movement. Service history unknown, but as you can see the movement looks incredibly clean and it doesn’t appear to have missed a beat on my wrist.

STRAP: Comes on a vintage style 17mm brown leather strap, with generic buckle. As its vintage style, it’s smaller and will fit up to just under a 7 inch wrist. Happy to include another strap if your wrist is larger.

ACCESSORIES: Watch comes with a period correct Cartier box. As can be seen the hinge at the back has damage, but still opens and closes and it’s great to have to complete the set, and for display/storage as well.
