Kevin O'Leary describes Omega watches as "entry level" and "affordable"

In 2023, the median household gross income in the US was $74,202. Obviously, the meidan household net income was significantly lower. I would venture to guess that the aveage new Omega watch in 2023 cost somewhere in the $5,500 to $7,500 range. Considering these numbers, an Omega watch is certainly entry level to someone like Kevin O'Leary or when compared to offerings from Patek, AP or VC. In the eyes of the vast majority of US households, however, purchasing an Omega watch would certainly not be viewed as either "entry level" or "affordable" by any stretch of the imagination.

Yes, but in watch terms, I.e. viewing the watch market as a whole, Omega is nowhere near "entry level".

There are many watch companies selling high quality mechanical watches for less than 1000 usd, which is well below the cost of even the cheapest Omega. Seiko, Hamilton, Orient, Timex, Stowa, Laco are just a few examples.

I can't imagine anyone is buying an Omega because they think it's "entry level" or "affordable", which seemed to be what he thinks.

Now excuse me while I go ahead and admire my entry level chronograph.

If you’ve ever seen Kevin O’Leary in Teddy Baldassare’s videos you’ll know his focus is ultra expensive, high end watches. He’s often surprised by the quality of watch he can get for $750/1500/2500.

Whether this focus is because he only got into watches when became mega minted or an affectation to make himself seem more prestigious, like his habit of peppering his sentences with French words (Mange Tout Rodney), I don’t know.

Either way, his viewpoint is that a $7k Omega is entry level.

If that bothers you then simply don’t watch his TV show or follow his socials.

Hmmm.... If a Casio can sell for even half the ask on this one, maybe Omega is entry level?

https://www.chrono24.com/casio/casio-g-shock-mr-g-limited-edition--id30499737.htm
Casio has been doing these limited editions for a little while now. They have had limited editions that range from 7k up to 70k.
https://omegaforums.net/threads/casio-for-the-low-price-of-€7k-update-with-70k-piece.99326/
They been doing those Limited Editions and Boutique exclusives for a few years now.

G shock collectors are no joke serious. Just not an aspect of watch collecting we see here.

I have one too. They are indeed entry level of a quality mechanical chrono IMO. I find it amusing that so many are so offended by a wealthy man's opinions on watches. Insecurity runs rampant with Omega and Rolex owners (like I said, I own both brands but am aware they are at the low end of luxury time pieces).

I am very Leary of anything Kevin O has to say. His view on the pursuit of financial freedom at any cost puts him in the greedy douche category for me. Everyone has a right to their opinion, IMO money is never more important than the people you love. For me the people I love are my motivation and they matter more than anything else in this world. Here is his tweet:

"You may lose your wife, you may lose your dog, your mother may hate you. None of those things matter. What matters is that you achieve success and become free. Then you can do whatever you like."

Please expand on the technical reasons why the Speedmaster Pro is entry level.

Jesus, no wonder I stopped coming to this forum.

Curiosity has gotten the better of me so serious question- given the second statement of yours I quoted, what are you getting out of still responding to a bunch of people that you don't seem to have any respect for at all?

A great many of us here on the Forum aren't offended at all by a "wealthy man's" self-satisfied opinions. Our watch brand insecurities are bridled because we simply pay no attention to what amounts to drivel.

I haven't needed to actually watch him for his "reflected drivel" is apparent within the posts in this thread. It's more amusing to read this thread and learn who is wound up by him, one way or the other.

I wouldn't class any watch with a METAS certified movement that's got 0 to +5 seconds per day accuracy as "entry level", but that's just me.

I never heard of him prior to reading this thread.

So I saw this Producer Michael video where they talk about some of Kevin O'Leary's watches.

Some of the watches were nice, but when they talk about his Omega Seamaster, Kevin had a seriously hot take.

He said that Omega watches were good "for an entry level brand" and that they are "affordable". That seriously made me think "what the fυck is this guy smoking?"

In no world can you use either of those words to describe Omega. What do you guys think? Here's the video. Omega discussion is at the 8 minute mark.

I really can't stand either of these two pretentious windbags. At least 'Kevin' is not wearing a squirrel on his head. My difference? I like watches. Not to be confused with vulgar jewelry that contains a movement.

Funny that the two tossers in the above picture, Have not had anything to do with the plethora of knowledge I have gained from the people that I don't know what they look like I interact with here...

Oddly as one that doesn't do YouTube unless it's something I want to learn like a knife making or woodworking video.
It's surprising how much shite comes from YouTube people in the watch world, be it ripping people off, stealing Bogart's watch to calling Omega "entry level"

I will stick to the faceless enablers of knowledge here - thank you.

"Look, I've got more money than you and even if you're thinking I'm a complete tosser you know that I can spend more on a single watch than the cost of your home, car and pedigree dog all put together. "
