Kevin O'Leary describes Omega watches as "entry level" and "affordable"

I can't think of anything positive to say about that guy... so I will try to refrain...

As @Archer aptly noted, "In reality, Omega has little to do with the way most people feel about him"

OK, to make it clear, I'm not upset or offended by him calling Omega "entry level" or "affordable". I just thought it was such a weird opinion to have about a company that sells watches that cost thousands of dollars each.

I can't imagine that most people, like 99%, would think a watch that costs 7000 is "affordable".

I also thought it was funny because Omega and Rolex are direct competitors. I mean I've never seen him discuss Breitling or Tag Huer either.

I just think he's wildly out of touch with what most people would consider to be an "affordable" watch. No, I don't find it offensive, just a very strange opinion to have about one of the biggest Swiss watchmakers.

I wonder what he'd think of companies like Rado, Rotary or Hamilton, lol.

What's wrong with discussing somebody's wildly out-of-touch opinion?

Nothing wrong with creating a public thread to share your opinion. Just as there is nothing wrong with people replying to your thread, to express their own opinions. 👍

Jesus, no wonder I stopped coming to this forum. All because a wealthy watch collector rightly calls Omega watches (of which I own two) "entry level" in the world of higher end watches?? I also consider Rolex (of which I own three) entry level higher end watches. It's not an insult to thin skinned Omega or Rolex owners, it's an accurate comment.

Many of the posters here actually don't seem to care about his opinion about Omega, the issue seems to be O'Leary himself. I don't expect you to actually read through the thread to determine who thinks what though, it would probably be a waste of your time.

and to this:

Everyone who has replied to this thread.

it's a web forum that many of us frequent regularly to interact with other people. O'Leary came up as a topic, so some of us are discussing O'Leary for the sake of conversing on a forum we spend time. I see it as akin to O'Leary coming up at Thanksgiving dinner, everybody is likely to dive in with an opinion but it doesn't necessarily mean that everyone involved in the conversation really cares.

What I thought was funnier is when Producer Michael said he'd been waiting for a Silver Snoopy for 3 years and still hasn't got one.

This is a guy who's spent 1 million USD on a single watch, doesn't own a single Omega, and can't fathom why they wouldn't allocate him a Snoopy.

Everyone who has replied to this thread.

Not exactly. Most people have replied about him being an implement for feminine hygiene, and that his opinion is meaningless.

So I imagine few would give a toss what he thinks about Rado and whatever else.

If you don't care, why are you responding to the thread?

It's good to see that you care too because you replied to this thread.

I think this thread has been a fun distraction from another “is my uncle’s watch a redial” thread. We were overdue. I’ve enjoyed having a bit of fun at Mr. O’Leezy’s expense.

I didn’t watch the video, but if Omega is entry level luxury, then Rolex is, too. Both brands are equal on quality and finishing, sell mainly mass produced watches with movements finished by machines with some exceptions (more exceptions on Omega’s side as far as I know) Above that level you have JLC, Blancpain etc and then you have Patek, Lange etc. Nevertheless, an Omega tourbillon or the Chrono Chime is right up there with PP and ALC while Rolex doesn’t make such pieces. So Kevin has some homework to do.

On a completely related note, it was absolutely beautiful in the Pacific Northwest today.

That watch looks so good for an entry level diver. I bet you bought it because of how affordable it was.

You definitely don't need to feel embarrassed to wear it.

I’m selling my entire Omega collection. I’m so ashamed and humiliated. Maybe I’ll just give it away and end it all. See what you did, Kevin? You are a VERY bad man. VERY BAD.

Indeed, this is my favorite entry level timepiece! It was either this or a sub, not a hard choice imo. Both are great entry level watches though so no Rolex hate from me! 😉😎

In 2023, the median household gross income in the US was $74,202. Obviously, the median household net income was significantly lower. I would venture to guess that the aveage new Omega watch in 2023 cost somewhere in the $5,500 to $7,500 range. Considering these numbers, an Omega watch is certainly entry level to someone like Kevin O'Leary or when compared to offerings from Patek, AP or VC. In the eyes of the vast majority of US households, however, purchasing an Omega watch would certainly not be viewed as either "entry level" or "affordable" by any stretch of the imagination.
