Kevin O'Leary describes Omega watches as "entry level" and "affordable"

So I saw this Producer Michael video where they talk about some of Kevin O'Leary's watches.

Some of the watches were nice, but when they talk about his Omega Seamaster, Kevin had a seriously hot take.

He said that Omega watches were good "for an entry level brand" and that they are "affordable". That seriously made me think "what the fυck is this guy smoking?"

In no world can you use either of those words to describe Omega. What do you guys think? Here's the video. Omega discussion is at the 8 minute mark.

I didn’t bother to watch the video, but I see a Patek and what I believe to be an IWC in the display shown. Entry level to some in Timex or others of that ilk. When you have a Maclaren in the garage, a Mercedes is “entry level”.

I haven’t watched his video, but compared to his other watches, yes, Omega is entry level. Omega, like Rolex, is a mass produced mid tier brand. It’s entry level to some (but of course not entry level to all). I’m not offended by it though. Buy and wear what you like regardless of what others think or say.

I didn’t watch the video, but strictly from a financial perspective even the most expensive Omega could easily be “entry level” to him. In terms of overall product quality and movement finishing, I’d place Omega in the middle tier - not as good as the holy trinity and other high end brands like JLC, but just as good or better than a similarly mass produced luxury brand like Rolex and at 2/3 the price.

To him the "holy trinity" means Rolex, Patek and AP.

It would probably blow his mind to think that Rolex and Omega are on the same level, in terms of watch making.

Of Rolex, Patek and AP, clearly one doesn’t belong in that group - and it’s not Patek and AP. If Mr. O’Leary truly thinks that Omega and Rolex aren’t essentially equivalent in quality, then I certainly won’t be seeking him out for advice.

O'Leary's usual pitch is 'just buy a Nautilus or Royal Oak at MSRP... you instantly generate 2x on your investment...' so, not exactly useful advice for us plebian enthusiasts.

Oh and while you're at it, 'put a red strap on everything to catch people's attention.'

Yeah, I'm not saying Omega is at the highest level of watch making, but it's definitely not "entry level".

To me, affordable is like around £300 or less.

Seiko is what I'd call entry level, not Omega.

This guy is indeed a douche, but for the types of watches he buys, Omega is indeed entry level. Best to not let that upset you.

His views on Omega are the least douche thing about him...

The point’s been made, but without context “entry level” is pretty meaningless. A point-and-shoot digital camera you can get at Walgreens is “entry level,” but so is a $400 Canon Rebel DSLR. An entry level job at a local restaurant is different from an entry level position at a huge law firm. It all depends on what you’re “entering.” A Calatrava could be considered an entry level Patek: it’s still over 30k, impossible to get at retail, and, in terms of detailing, superior to most anything Rolex or Omega will ever produce. If what you’re entering is the world of watches, then a Timex is entry level. If what you’re entering is the world of high end luxury watches, then Omega is definitely entry level.

That having been said, it is indeed a douchey “flex” to say that your $7,000 watch is “entry level” without making the context totally clear.

But the day I get the call to go collect my exit level Nautilus at MSRP I plan to bail on this entry level watch forum.

The man probably spends more on his clothes then most of us spend on a watch. If he thinks Omega is entry level then to him it's entry level.

It's all relative. I understand what he was saying.

I saw more than my share of Kevin O’Leary when I was on a YouTube kick about a year ago. He is quite a douche but he’s also a genuine watch nut and has some really cool stuff. At the time, he had basically turned himself into a Journe brand ambassador. To someone like him Omega is indeed entry level. I do dislike his tacky red strap obsession. Also, anyone who nicknames themselves “Mr. Wonderful”… yea…

That genuinely made me laugh. Thank you.

OK, just to make it clear, his opinion is that Omega is entry level and Rolex is top tier brand. Which is honestly a really stupid thing to say.

Omega, Rolex, Breitling and Tag Huer are all at the same level in terms of retail price and quality of watch making.

Rolex, Patek and AP are clearly not on the same level, at all.
