Just a Craig ad, or a Bond forecast?

To me, Bond should wear a Rolex and drive Aston Martins. Omega is like when he went with BMW for a while, doesn’t seem right

If we want to go really old school, Bond should wear a Rolex and drive a Bentley.

A vintage Bentley, of course (not one of the newer footballer's cars).

About the same sense as

52-sense-this-picture-makes-none.jpeg

May be they could reissue the SM120 166.027 and use that Vader photo.

Omega is trying so hard, gotta give then that. However I think the ad is just stupid

Me too. Diver watch out of the water, tux underwater? Big honking diver with blue synthetic strap worn with probably the dressiest suit a man can wear? Barely fits under his cuff.

I know Bond has been shown to wear a tux under a diving suit, but that was when he wore... a Rolex.

So this is acceptable ...

But this isn't?

Are we Omega wearers suffering from a slight inferiority complex?

Well, I don't. (both ads are OKish, but slightly cheesy ihmo, could be ads for cheap perfume).

I just think Omega is trying too hard with the Bond thingy. I mean, look at what they did in the 40s to the 70s, why not create an image based on that? Real people wore them, RAF pilots, military divers, even Russian astronauts wore them ffs! Why bother with Bond, why chase the already well established fame of Connery and its Rolex? Bond is just a cardboard action figure anyway.

I'm just disappointed at the marketing crap we are drowning in these days.

I don't care much for celebrity "brand ambassadors". I've never been influenced to purchase a watch because I saw an ad of a celebrity wearing a particular watch

Also the next Bond movie will be out in two years. It’s like when the shops start their X-mas theme in August. Are they going to show Daniel Craig in different positions and elements with the same watch over the next two years.

O/T, but I've seen that ad scores of times and only now noticed that the 6538 really had a bit of a Supercase for its time.

Does anyone know the status of this particular version, silver face w/blue?

I've seen it on review videos and such but never available for sale. The other colors are available even on Omega's website but this one says out of stock on one page and product no longer available on the this specific product page. WTF does that mean? Out of stock I get, on backorder I get, discontinued I get, but no longer available could mean any one of those.

In the tux, he's Bond. I think they're previewing the watch he'll wear on screen.
Agreed

It’s probably on backorder. When Omega first started selling the NATO straps, like half of them were always out of stock.

I think it will continue with some Planet Ocean, surely some exclusive model for the movie

From Omega's website, "OMEGA watches were once issued to military divers around the world. In fact, the brand delivered more than 110,000 watches to Great Britain’s MoD in World War II. It is entirely plausible that Commander James Bond would have been issued with an OMEGA watch."

Works for me. At this point, almost half his cinematic career has seen an Omega on his wrist.

I think that the advert isn't showing or previewing the watch Daniel Craig will be wearing, simply because it looks like a simple marketing advert.

As someone mentioned on here it looks like "A cheap perfume advert". Although I do love the tuxedo and his deep blue eyes...

I'm sure he may be wearing more than one watch too, like in previous movies.

When out of stock, in the past the website has said, "This item is not currently available." It wouldn't say, "This item is no longer available." Perhaps they changed their language, but at face value, the wording suggests a discontinuation of the model. I honestly don't know.

In a letter to a fan written in June 1958, Ian Fleming clarified a point about Bond's watch habits, saying that "the Rolex Oyster Perpetual weighs about six ounces and would appreciably slow the use of his left hand in combat. His practice, in fact, is to use fairly cheap, expendable wrist watches on expanding metal bracelets which can be slipped forward over the thumb and used in the form of a knuckle-duster".

As we all know well, an Omega Seamaster is neither cheap nor expendable ... and it probably wasn't in 1958, either. But according to the ultimate authority on the subject, 007 didn't always wear a Rolex.

It says out of stock on one page and no longer available on another. Confusing.
