I admit for dress watch it is a little bit thick. But what I would like to see is nice guilloche ala Breguet or VC.................
A couple of JLC Triple-Date Moonphases from my collection. The round one is a LeCoultre from 1949, powered by the shaped cal. 486A/W movement, manufactured in a run of 5,000 to commemorate the life of Jacques-David LeCoultre who died in 1948. 500 were sold in Europe (Jaeger-LeCoultre) in 14k gold shaped cases. The remainder were exported to the US (LeCoultre) and sold mainly in 10k gold-filled cases, both round and shaped. This one is in an 18k gold round case. The shaped one is a recreation of the shaped-case version of the 1949 watch, the movement made with NOS 1949 parts. It was produced in a run of 600 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of la manufacture (1988). Chris
Not a fan of the Master Calendar with the power reserve indcator - to me that addition ruined the balance that the dial of the Master Moon had. Mine's gone now, but it was a very classic and balanced design....37 mm diameter and I didn't find it to be too thick. In fact it was only slightly thicker than my Blancpain Leman "Ultrathin" was. Cheers, Al
Couldn't agree more. Moving the month and day indicators out from the centre of the dial just ruins the classic design IMO.
Looks like JLC are going back to the old dial layout with a new triple date for 2013. http://collection.jaeger-lecoultre.com/US/en/collections/new Back to the boutique then
That layout has been around along with the RdM version for a few years I think. I tried one on at my AD last year. The 37 mm wide models are great, but all those complications make the watch too thick for my tastes.
It was discontinued & they have only had the RDM layout for a while. Now they're bringing it back. I can't see whether its revived as 37mm or if they've gone bigger. [Edit: the new one is 39mm & they say it has been redesigned accordingly: http://www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/GB/en/content/master-calendar-l-evolution-de-la-perfection.html]
The boutique have emailed to say the new versions will be 8450 euros (£7200 at today's rates). I'm sticking to the plan to get the MUT Moon 39.
