Sounded familiar 😉.
He got it for 5k in the end.

He showed the watch to me when I met him once a few years back. unfortunately this is the only (crappy) pic I have of it, its in the middle of the case:
I‘m a firm believer, that honesty goes a long way in life and in watch collecting!
Cheers,

Damn that is a killer selection of watches 😲
One of the best stories I have ever read. Congratulations! After reading this, I complained to my wife that this kind of thing never happens to me, but then she reminded me that I never check jewelry stores, estate sales, or pawn shops.
I have been doing it for years - antique stores, local hole-in-the wall jewelers, estate sales, etc. 99.99% of the time there is nothing but beat up old Bulovas and maybe a Hamilton or two. But it just takes one...
Maybe I missed it, but how has your wife taken to all of this?
She trusted me (and you all) enough to let me spend 4x what I did on my birth year submariner, which was a huge splurge in itself...
Although, I may have convinced her that the jeweler wouldn’t take my offer because I would tell him that he could get $5k+ more if I market the watch online for him... I’m still somewhat surprised they took it.
Once I got home with it and had several messages with offers, she was more comfortable and okay with me getting it serviced, getting the bracelet fixed, and enjoying it for a while.
