I've been pretty vocal about this myself, I think there has been a perception that only enthusiasts care about this or that but I think this does ultimately negatively affect their market perception to the general public.
Omega have traditionally pushed a marketing angle of being innovative, especially with their movement technology. Spirate seems to be dead in the water and the continually bloated case sizes have caused a negative general perception that the co-axial technology makes the watches too big. Continuing to release chunky parts bin specials of a design from 2018, in my opinion, damages the brand long term for minimal short term gain.
The new gen PO did slim down a bit and looks pretty fresh design wise, so I still have some hope Omega do understand this and are just taking their time getting it right. But we need a new SMP generation soon and it really, really needs to go back to being sleek again. The target should be no less than Rolex Submariner beating specifications.
This is really cool, I hadn't seen quite a few of these before. That Goldfinger full gold AT is pretty cool! I also didn't realise the 12 o'clock marker on the new blue one is also a parts bin design from 2019. I thought that was new.
On a positive note,
someone has already bought the new blue variant and put it on the OEM rubber. I actually don't mind it in that configuration. Suits it a lot better than the mesh. The same comment thread has an
AI rendering of the black variant on black rubber, which looks like it would look better as well.
