·There is a lot of advertising for next week's upcoming Hodinkee / IWC collaboration (2/23/2021).
Based on what I am seeing - "An Icon Makes Its Encore" and "For Those Who Missed the 90s", it is pretty clear it will be a 3705 re-edition.
My best guess?
A 39mm IWC Pilot Chronograph watch - vintage styling to honor the IWC 3705 (aka re-edition) with a ceratanium case and limited to 1000 pieces - half available through Hodinkee and half through IWC network (since they are co-advertising this).
I am predicting a retail price of $7,900 (roughly $8,600 with tax). I am taking the base cost of the previous Hodinkee ceratanium release ($6,400) and adding $1,500 for the cost of the chronograph/date upgrade.
I would be very surprised if my guess is off.
If it looks good and is truly a 3705 re-edition at that price point, I think it would be hard to say no to this. The same great look at less than half of what a 3705 costs, with modern materials? IWCs generally don't hold their value well, but the Hodinkee ceratanium does just fine as will this, I think. Don't expect a premium on the secondary though anytime soon with that many pieces though...
At roughly $8,600 after tax and 1,000 pieces, how many of you would be a buyer?
