hello folks.

Not watches exaclty but closely related to our obsessions.
I found that in my mother's house when she passed away a few years ago. For those who are not french "Paris Match" could be compared to Life magazine

let me translate for non french speakers

The Moon, historical number.

Encyclopedia, novel and atlas of the moon;
the first men on the moon

Apollo XII, 20 page in coulour, 32 hours on the moon

In colour, Apollo XV on the moon. the full album of the successful expedition.

and under this stack where also some darker era one, before the disaster for those who like history.

Help them to defend us. Buy war bonds

The Royal air force in Norway

Genral Valenius, commander of the center army.

Interesting to see it from an international perspective. It was made into a very patriotic thing within the US, and I admit I really don't have a sense of how the moon landing was viewed in other places.

Hello Dan. I think the moon missions where internationaly followed. We, french did it on a different scale concerning space. We launched our space program in 1961. Our first real rocket was launched in 1965, la fus茅e Dimant (the diamond rocket). The first Ariane rocket was launched in 1971.
two other interesting pics :

what the space shutlle supposed to look like in the late 60's. And, yes we had no time to go to the moon because we where building the Concorde with our british friends 馃槈

It was seen in Australia as a more global thing, and something we were a part of as our tracking stations at Honeysuckle Creek and Parkes played a significant role in the program, relaying footage from the moon. There鈥檚 a movie called The Dish that shows it from our perspective which is actually quite good, but it was seen very much as Armstrong put it as an giant leap for all mankind.

At that time, I still was in the now obsolete Workers and Peasants Paradise , the German version of Russia. Everybody, who had access to a TV and could get western TV reception , watched it there. Everybody.

@gbesq; Actually this is your post that made me think of these old magazines and share.
@watchyouwant. As I understand you where living in DDR. I would be curious to know how the event was mentionned on communist countries.
@JimJupiter, believe it or not, just a single Omega ad and a few other brands nice ones. But, but... tons of magnificent 60's style ads. 馃槈
As an indication on the Eterna Matic ad, in 1968 the SMIG (lower legal salary) in France was 3,2 francs per hour. So it required 278 hours to buy a Steel Eterna matic or about 2 month of work for badly paid worker as the legal worktime was 40 hours a week in these day I think. Today that would make around 3000 euros. I can make a mistake because that sounds pretty high.

In the UK it was the very first time that TV had broadcast right through 24 hours (on all the three channels we had then). I was in front of the box until they had made the return rendezvous sometime well after dawn (here) the next day. I don't remember if I made it into college, but as a Mech Eng student I think I had a good excuse. Yes, it was massive.

I don't think so but there are tons of good pictures. Just noticed that an Eterna full gold was 8 times the price of gaz stove. Would it be equal to more or less 8x4/500 euros...? Not that cheap actually
