·Yeah, that is BS. I have two modern Omega automatics, and don't have an issue with either needing to be hand-wound -- and I often spend most of the day sitting at a desk.
Initially, I didn't realize that and opted for the Reduced over the Pro about 9 years ago, precisely because I thought I'd never have to wind it and, all things being equal, I'd rather not have to wind my watches. Once I discovered that it still needed some winding to be sure it wouldn't stop, that was a principal factor in my decision to sell it and just get a Speedy Pro. Of course, now that I've succumbed to the bug, I keep all 5 Omegas (2 manuals and 3 autos) fully wound and I have the tell-tale callus on the middle of my index finger.
