Interesting read. I do wonder if a vague archive picture of the front (showcasing at least a similar watch) is enough to convince 6-digit figure buyers that this is that actual watch. I myself would require more evidence; a family confirmation, serial number check, clear picture of the back of the actual JFK watch, and so on. Who’s to say this is not just Joe Frank Krispin’s 1942 Christmas gift watch? Or worse, only a knockoff of the actual JFK watch?

in my opinion, one vague picture is insufficient provenance.

That’s why there is a “?” at the end of the title.

Here’s a blow up of a portion of the case:

The 2nd son of one of the richest families in the U.S. at that time had a gold filled watch? The difference between a $50 gold filled and a $100 solid 14K Bulova would have been nothing for the “real” JFK.

That’s why I think the claim is a bit fishy.

Since I personally do not pay additionally for previous "celebrity" ownership, neither in case of watches, nor in case of cars (e.g. the former pope´s one time VW Rabbit Series II, this proven at least), I only laugh at people paying rediculeous money for items worth a few hundred dollars (including the pope´s VW). But is good for the economy to have guys so willingly separating from bunches of money 😁

Hm, personally I wouldn't like a watch for being someone's if I don't like the watch in the first place. Even worse if it's in bad condition. I would only see it as a monetary value, and not a collectable piece I want to keep.

Also I don't see any credible way to verify it in this specific case - that it's not just a random watch.

The watch looks vaguely like a 1942 Bulova President.

Price difference between gold-filled and gold was less than I originally thought. Which IMO makes it even less likely to be President Kennedy’s watch.

Color me skeptical.

He was drowning and gambling away his watches so maybe GF was the best choice😉

Kid is at college- trashes nice watch like an idiot. Dad is an asshole, tells secretary on December 22nd to run out and buy spare son a new watch- get it engraved. Done- move on to more war crimes.

JFK joined the Navy in 1941 and got his first assignment to command PT-101 in early December, 1942.
Color me skeptical.

I'm also skeptical. Kennedy was assigned to PT-101 on December 7, 1942 and most likely wasn't at the family compound that Christmas. Not to say the family didn't have the watch for him and gave it to him at some later date.
