Hi

Am a newbie here. I am being offered this Omega Seamaster 30 by a local dealer. Quite like the watch but I have not been able to find this particular dial on a Seamaster on any website or forum. Appreciate the help

Many thanks

What did the "local dealer" tell you about it?

First impressions: Hands not Omega style, replacement crown, dial has been re-done.

Better/clearer photos would help.

It’s a fantasy redial with the wrong crown. I expect the movement is pretty tired and in need of service as well. A lot of these come out of India - they take old, unserviced watches with bad dials, repaint the dial making it look like a WW2 field watch or a Railmaster, the. Sell them on eBay. Unless you can get it super cheap, not worth the money.

Fantasy redial tapping into the demand for genuine black dial/don draper/military style Seamasters.

A lot of these fantasy dials are quite nicely done, albeit not from a "purist" point of view. My first vintage Seamaster had one. But the movement inside was a mess -- probably hadn't been serviced in years. I spent more on having it serviced and parts than I paid for the watch. This was I the late 90s when these were cheap. The problem is, the sellers have increased the prices and movements inside still mostly have not been serviced in decades. So, they aren't a bargain as they once were.

Obviously it's "completely genuine " 😉

Thank you. It is super cheap. Has been serviced by an authorised omega centre so far keeping good time so I'm kind of inclined to just go ahead

How do you define super cheap?

If you intend to go deeper into the watch hobby, then I’d recommend saving your $300, and letting it build up while you continue to look.

Another tip. Follow the private sales forum and also follow the recommended vintage omega watches only on eBay.

The watches on these forums organically get vetted by many experts here, and I’ve not found better fair pricing anywhere else.

Outside it may look like a deal, but on my experience, you pay for that down the road in hidden costs or authenticity.

I doubt that. Any non-Omega parts would have been replaced.
Does the seller have an intervention document from that service centre?
