Is this an Ed White?

I was wearing it everyday after the service but since learning more about it I've taken it off. Until it is properly valued for insurance. Hence my dilemma. I'd wear it if it was insured properly.

I guess I need to know whether to go back to the jeweller and ask for a proper valuation. And what should I tell the insurance company. Should I go to a specialist insurance provider.

Thanks again.

Talk to your insurance agent about a rider on your homeowner's policy. Ask him how to go about it. Then come back and let us know how it goes.

Will speak to the insurer then. It sounds like it's more a matter between me and them. I'll say to myself it's worth about 拢8k. Looking at Speedmaster101, a running version is $9k so mine is a bit better and just been serviced with a dot. So at current conversion is about that, possibly more.

I'll speak to them and report back. I'll also report back once speaking to the Omega Boutique.

re: Crown - if i want to wear it then having the waterproof seal will be important.

Thanks!

Should be possible to refit both.
I express myself in the wrong way 馃檨
The i don't think you will was refer to the possibility of selling the watch for the personal value, not to the possibility of fitting back crown and pushers (which can be told only by a watch maker)
sorry 馃う

I would put the old hands back on it. They match perfectly with the patina of the dial. Wonderful watch btw.

I'm very surprised that Omega agreed to service your watch without insisting that the dial be replaced. The lume looks very fragile.

you have all the original parts so just wear it as it is and enjoy it without worring. This is what your father would have wanted. Just don鈥檛 loose or misplace the little bag of treasures. Enjoy

Hello mate. Sorry to hear of your sad loss. You have a beautiful watch there, and I hope you enjoy wearing it with pride. 馃榾

With regard to sending it to Omega...馃槻
...The watch was sent to Bienne. Omega will do everything to make the watch work properly else they wouldn't be doing their job...

If it ever needs any further attention, you will be pleased to know that in the UK (Southend on Sea area, Essex) we are fortunate to have two first class service centres. (Swiss Time Services and Simon Freese Watchmakers.)
They will expertly service a vintage Speedmaster sympathetically without destroying it's vintage charm or reducing it's value. In short, you can have your cake, and eat it.馃憤

That's really useful to know thanks. I was oblivious to the issues around sending to Bienne. Very green on all this.
I drive a lot so going to Southend not too much of an issue. I'll look them up when the time comes. Or perhaps drop by to see if one can put the old hands back on.

Is it just the hands that you think they have messed up or is there more they shouldn't have done?

Actually this and the glass was the only thing they did ask me if I wanted to replace, I said no, unless it will affect the functioning of the watch. And went with the plastic in keeping with the original.

You will find that many of our members have used the services of Simon Freese. He is very highly regarded on this forum. Give him a call. He is a very helpful bloke.馃榾 (p.s. In the mean time make sure the old hand set is kept in a way that they can't be accidently bent or damaged.)

As others have said, sorry for your loss.

As to the watch itself, as it sits it's worth 拢6-8,000. However, it would take little work to bring the watch back to original and you will have a piece that would command 拢10,000 or more. What you want to do in that respect is entirely up to you but if you do want to go down that route Simon Freese or STS would be the go-to people. They have lots of experience with vintage Speedmasters and the simple fact that either of them have finished the watch will add value.

However, we are talking about an estimate for insurance purposes and you need to consider the availability of a replacement along with the constantly increasing prices. For those reasons, I would put an insurance value of no less than 拢12,000.

Wow it's sound like the service was actually detrimental to the watch. I'll drop Simon a call and ask for his advice too. Thank you again all.

Oh well... at least you have all the bits.馃憤 Simon will sort it out. It's what he does best.馃榾

I turned up hear a couple of years ago with my Dad's 1960's Speedmaster. Fortunately, at the time, I was too broke to afford to send it to Omega. Can I just say another thankyou to those who advised me.... DON'T SEND IT TO OMEGA! 馃榿 SEND IT TO STS AND GET SIMON FREESE TO CHECK IT OVER! 馃憤

Since the parts were returned to you, there was no lasting harm done, and most importantly the movement was actually cleaned and lubricated, so now the watch is ready to use. Reinstalling the used parts is not a big deal.

Agreed. I'm not sure this warrants a panicked journey to STS or Simon. If it's for daily wear you can also make a case for not refitting the crown and pushers as the seals will be knackered.

Tha hands should be refitted at some point and the crown and pushers maybe. It's not a huge deal due now though. Keep them safe and you have the option when it's convenient.
