Hi OF
I have been offered this very nice Omega Railmaster 2714-2 from 1957. The watch has been 100% serviced and comes 100% original with a very “special” dial/patina, which I find pretty cool. I think it’s an honest watch.I dont have any pictures of the movement, but I have checked it together with my watchmaker - and it’s ok. It comes with new bracket and will be delivered with an original crown. And seller has already ordered an Extract.

I just find the price to high. The price is USD 11.500,-

What is your guys opinion about the condition of the watch - and price?

High price for not nice and rusty dial, wrong crown and overpolished case.. IMHO..

No, it's not a good deal. The watch doesn't look nice and the price is far beyond of what would be realistic.

...You could try asking at "vintageure" on Facebook if it is a good deal. Or look at ended auctions on Bruun-Rasmussen.dk and decide if you find the offer reasonable 🙄

I don't really know the market for that watch, and personal tastes vary regarding damaged dials, but I personally would not pay $5000 for that one. Hey, you asked.

FYI, the blank case back isn't from polishing. It's common on (earlier) 2914-2.

Correct. But it wasn't that round when it left the factory.

as a former owner of a 2914-1. . i agree w/ the comments here. while there can be differences of opinion as to "patina" vs. "damage" this to me is a clearly damaged dial that is not attractive to the eye. the case is highly polished. . .i think even if you got this for a song it would be very very difficult to ever re-sell this watch

this is what a 2914-1 is supposed to look like. . .from phillips NY 2018 and there was another spectacular one in the geneva auction the same year

the NY one below was 45k all-in and the geneva one was 47.5k CHF but these were world records for the best examples out there

you can look at davidoff's web site / archive for a range of railmasters different variants and some have patina. . but the OP watch is not patina i think its just damaged

Let's just call it what it is - rust.

That's what happens when the iron dial reacts to moisture intrusion.

The watch in question was sold on auction recently at a quite low price. About half of the asking price this time around, if the OP is correct.

It was sold to weeks ago on Bruun Rasmussen auctions for 30.000 DKK + fee (25% i think) = 5,5k $ so a 2X mark up on 2 weeks 😀
