Is Instagram on steroids?

Wow that’s intriguing, that never happens to me—
My old little watches must really be quite uninteresting 😜

I can refer you, if you'd like? Who wouldn't be happy making more money doing binary trading (whatever that is) instead of working?

There has been a very steep increase in bot traffic and activity on Instagram since they added the ability to post new content directly from desktop browsers in the last couple of weeks so that may be a part of it too, I've noticed a pile of my posts including some very old ones being liked and re-posted by accounts that do nothing but post non-original copied content of late.

@Syrte I like all of your posts on instagram. Especially the ones with paris on the backround. You're one of my favourites!

You are too kind, it’s always a pleasure to share my passion for my city— along with my enthusiasm for some of the beautiful or worn out or scratched up watches that I like.

that seems super interesting, can you please explain for those of us who are not so conversant on those processes? I don’t understand how posting content from browsers would enable bots, and are you saying those are bots liking our accounts? What do you mean by « accounts that do nothing but post non original copied content »? What purpose do they serve for whom and how does that apply to watches?

So buying likes and followers or even comments is an old practice on IG, it’s used by many celebs and influencers and many watch dealers who want to seem bigger and more legit than they really are.

IG tries to play cat and mouse with the bot farmers and wipes out huge piles into the 10s of millions of fake accounts when they detect patterns but the majority still get through. In order to avoid detection the bots have to look as much like a real normal person as possible which can mean liking normal stuff in a specific niche or sector, posting (stolen) content and generally posting mindless 5 word or less comments or emojis.

IG was rather unusual in that they made it harder for most to interact unnaturally or by automatic means, while you could schedule posts as a business user, posting in general couldn’t be done in a normal through the browser way until this month.

Btw this is some background on click farms:

The rows of phones are a real thing and aids then in pretending to be real users.

With browser based posting enabled it’s a lot easier to script the process of scraping and posting content (phantomJS and other tools let you automate behaviour in a browser which is much easier than using apps) and generally pretending to be interactive users.

Wow, that’s crazy- it sounds almost unreal. So if a majority of those new likes are from bots, it means many of us humans may be posting in a complete void with an audience of machines.
Sounds like chasing after windmills, and quite pathetic. Might have to just go « private ».

…. Looking back at my account, it seems the heightened levels of «likes » started around late september.

Ha, that’s very funny because I did notice your account, looked at it more closely and thought exactly « well, so there are some real folks out there on IG ». And you will see I followed back 👍

I haven't noticed anything on my post yet, everything is still normal. No increase or spike whatsoever.

Added you before you went Private 😀 I’m not very active with posting, so I have no updates to provide engagement wise, but I do enjoy engaging with the people I follow and getting a glimpse into their world 😀 I also just followed you @Shabbaz gotta get on the ground floor before you go viral 😉 So, if you seen the name the_unpredictedjourney that is me

Blue pill or red pill.

I think Rolex is behind it all.

Nice topic.
To be honest, I've been experiencing exactly the opposite lately: I am still the same user, kinda basic -medium quality pics, medium quantity hashtags, no stories, no videos, just pics of my watches in the wild or wristshots- but in the last year my likes dropped by about half. I tried just after the summer to change something - my profile is now public, I tried different hashtags, some story- but nothing happened.
In the end I let it go because I still enjoy it anyway, but that was weird.

That is indeed sometimes strange— do you post frequently and with many hashtags? Instagram rewards frequent postings. In fact, a friend who has done some professional training in the use of social media told me that the company tries to stimulate people to post more by increasing the exposure of the accounts that have more regular activity.
This may be a sign that you have very healthy priorities and are not spending inordinate amounts of time on your phone working for Instagram for free.👍

I like you put it down like this 😀
But I get your point, how often do you post on IG?

Depends…. Sometimes I post every day for three/ 4 days, and then I stop for a a few days…. since I don’t really want my account to grow I do it when I feel like it.

PS it may also take into account the level of discussions when you post a watch.. being a woman gives a certain level of visibility in the watch world, I’m in a big city and have attended get togethers -- that means when I post there may be some very kind and generous pals posting replies or banter and that will also heighten the activity on the account.

It could be, but as far as I'm concerned you must know that every single like I give you is well deserved because you post a lot of amazing watches and nice places 😀

Thanks so much for the sweet words dear @bardamu, one heartfelt compliment from a forum pal is worth a thousand anonymous like. Also what makes this forum such a great place that no Instagram can replace. 👍

Zuck the Cuck is trying to get the youth back on his platform (they like likes, don't you know) so he can ruin them as well.

Sorry to say, but it isn't that you became a great photog overnight.
