Some general ""Press releases"" annoyed me again... as if successful unmanned landings have never been done
☕
Spaceflight fans know both the Russians and Americans landed unmanned spacecraft on the Moon, even with sample return...
Indeed the unmanned NASA
Lunar Ranger program, which crashed towards the lunar surface while taking photographs, were intended to crash onto the Moon. By 1965, the unmanned
Surveyor program also explored the lunar surface as scientists didn't know how thick the lunar soil was in different places. Five (out of 7) Surveyor craft landed successfully and as mentioned above, Surveyor 3 was visited by Apollo 12 Moonwalkers.
This commercial top-heavy "Phone Booth" probably has too much stuff onboard, even an "Artwork" ( claimed the first on the Moon
😕 )
By the way, already in August 1971 Belgian artist
Paul Van Hoeydonck had the "Fallen Astronaut" figurine artwork onboard
Apollo 15, so the current IM-1 artwork certainly isn't the first !
