But the numbers on the Dennison cases are plain Arabic numbers and not encrypted Roman numbers done by these lines, right?
Yep, was just adding that in when you posted. It looks like it performs the same function.

I agree with Mac Omega. I read the same explanation several times. Moreover, generally speaking, the place of the bezel/case back is decided by the position the opening hole should have, which is most often exactly opposite to the crown.
