Input on newly acquired Seamaster 14763

Hi Omega Forums braintrust,

I’ve been a background lurker for a couple of months, picking up two vintage Omegas, one from a long-standing OF member (I’ll post pictures of my “grand” two-watch collection in an intro post shortly) and the second off eBay a week ago.

The eBay watch comes with a 30-day return option and I’d like to seek your expert advice on the originality and condition of the watch before deciding to keep it.

The watch is an Omega Seamaster 14763 with cyclops date and to my eyes seems to be in a really very good condition.

Case: I do not think it has been polished and I think the brushing on the side is original
Crystal: Great condition with no cracks, Omega logo embossed
Crown: Looks like the original crown to me, when comparing to other similar models
Dial: In really great condition, very light lacquer visible under a loupe
Hands and dial furniture: Seems to be in a very good condition, under a loupe it looks like early oxidation my be setting in
Movement: Looks correct to my eyes and when comparing to other models. The eBay ad stated that it had been services but as I have no documentation, I will assume it has not been. Looses about 15 s/day, pretty consistently.
Bracelet: Great condition, not very much flex given the age, endlinks looks correct with ref# 11.

Questions to the OF’ers:
- Does the watch seem original, I.e., not a franken?
- What is the OF’ers take on the condition of the watch?
- As I will be daily wearing this watch, should I get it serviced (will this be good for longevity) or should I wait given that it keeps pretty good time?
- The dial has a slight champagne-color to is - is this patina or did the watch come this way back in the early 60’ies?
- Finally, I paid a little more than $900 all in. To me, this seems very reasonable but what does the OF’ers think?

Appreciate all your input and advice and patience with my long’ish post! Looks great! I'm almost kicking myself for not bidding on this one but very happy that it went to a fellow OF member! Would you be able to share the eBay seller's username? I meant to check out the other watches they had but didn't get around to it.

It is a nice example and you've paid a fair price in my books : congrats.
There could be some light patina but it did came with that champagne dial in the first place, no worry.
If I were you - with a 2 watches rotation I mean - I would definitely get it serviced. Just bring it to a good independent watchmaker.

Thanks, appreciate the input. I’ll begin looking for a watchmaker (@Archer, probably will reach out to you - giving you a fair warning :))

Nice addition :). As other will tell you, decent timekeeping is not an indication of overall movement health. You could wear it for some time and decide if you'd like to keep it for a longer term. If so, have it serviced.

Sound advice, I may go in this direction

champagne dial
Aged lacquer. It gets yellow as time goes on.

I agree, looks good. Original crown, too. Hopefully the crown gasket can be replaced so you can keep it, they don't offer that exact one anymore.

Do you know if the watch originally came with a silver dial when brand-new - or did it also have a champagne hue back then?
Tried google imaging it but could not find a definitive answer..

Can not comment on every item being correct, but it sure looks right. What an attractive Seamaster!
