Inherited (2007) Omega Speed Master (Moon watch)

Good day all.

I've inherited a Moon Watch from my father. It was his workhorse that he wore almost every day. Looking at the documentation, he bought it in 2007.
I don't believe it's ever been serviced (that I can remember anyway).

Would Omega have a record of any servicing by any chance if it was done by an authorised service provider?

My first thought is one day I will pass it to my son and need to know about servicing requirements. I see a mix of if it's working, leave it and get it done as lubricants dry out, etc.

I know how much it is, etc., but if it wasn't serviced and hypothetically in 5 - 10 years it became problematic, could it then be serviced or now etc.

I really know nothing about watches, I've just always loved my dad's.

Can there be any risks involved in getting the watch serviced?

Was he given/offered a free servicing in the first 5 years of warranty? I feel I've read this but maybe not?

I hope you're all well.

Best regards
Marty

Hi Marty, good that you intend to pass the watch on.
No, there is no risks by getting the watch serviced if you find a watchmaker with experience.
On the contrary, using the watch without service and dried-up oil may cause excessive wear.

If the watch is shipped to Omega and serviced there, its possible they will polish the watch. Or maybe replace parts as a bezel or plexi/glass (if its damaged). So if you value some scratches or other marks that belong to your dad, be carefull with that.

This was on my mind. I believe there's a box to click if YOU DO want the polish. I will travel to the authorised center and stipulate that no polishing of scratches is to be done.

He never got to see me wear it unfortunately, but I always said if I get one (I intended to buy one) that I would fit a brown leather strap. And before he passed, he mentioned that I would be doing it and he would like to see me wear it.

I'll post a photo once the new strap is fitted.

Torre Straps - recommended!
Thank you...
I've gone with DeLugs (Whiskey Waxy Slim Strap) with a black spring deployment Catch. My dad's drink on the odd occasion he did was a nice whiskey, you see.
Also, I have "Fox" engraved colourless on the buckle (I called him the Silver Fox and my son calls him Granda Fox... then on the underside of the Clasp I have engraved Sol (my son's name) as I'll be passing it on to him eventually

it is highly likely the watch hasn't seen a service. it is not very old and most people only service their watches when it starts acting up.

Here you go people.

My father's watch, he left me.
It looks lovely for a workhorse that's been on his wrist through everything he's done, it was never off his wrist.

Whiskey Waxy coloured Strap was his favourite tipple, when he did have a drink and I chose a black spring deployment clasp to accent. The strap is embossed with "Dad" and the buckle has "fox" on it; both not coloured (We called him the Silver Fox and my son called him Granda Fox.

And on the underside of the clasp my son's name Sol, as I will be one day passing it to him.

Cheers all

Marty
