Hi members,

I’ve recently inherited a old Seamaster from my grandfather. A treasure in my eyes, but would love to get a little more information on it - year, model, value, etc. I don’t really know much about it at all, but I’ve attached a bunch of pictures.

I think maybe the only one I’m missing is of the inside of the caseback, but I’m not sure how to access it (and I was a little too scared of breaking something!).

Appreciate any help I can get.

TY

Looks like a refenrence 166.002, should be from the mid 60ies

What do you think guys: Those hour markers should have lume - shouldn't they?
EDIT: Seems they are also seen without lume, sorry!

Yeah, looks like the black onyx indices and some of the black fell out of the minute hand- which happens.
As said above, mid 60’s, bracelet is aftermarket- would have come on a strap. Get it to a watchmaker for a clean and service, throw it on a nice croc or other reptile strap and you will have a stunning daily wearable watch.

Not me, man, if I had a solid gold bracelet like that, I'd be wearing it!

I don’t think the bracelet goes well with that watch. Frankly, I’d sell the bracelet as gold scrap, then put that money toward the service and a nice brown or black croc strap.

Me too, especially if it was my grandfather's.

Way too nice to sell for scrap. If it has to be sold at all, sell it to someone who would wear it.

It's a nice watch, and a wonderful reminder of your grandfather that you can wear. As others say, it will need a service from a qualified watchmaker. Try searching the forum reconditions for a watchmaker in your area, or start another thread asking for them. The watchmaker can open it so that you can take pictures.

As @Passover says this is definitely mid 60s and he is most likely correct on the reference number as well. Value is hard to pinpoint, but in usd this is three figures, not four. It is a nice watch, but not something you need to keep in a safety deposit box. You are correct though, a family watch is a treasure. Take care of it and pass it down someday.

As for the bracelet, I suggest you wear the watch as you prefer. If you don't want too much gold, put the watch on a nice strap. However, since it was your grandfather's I encourage you to hang on to the bracelet. Your tastes and styles may change.

Welcome to the forum, and the hobby. Be careful an inherited watch can be a gateway "drug" to this world.
