·For your consideration is this incredible vintage 1962 Omega Speedmaster ref: CK2998-3.
Serial: 17.76X.XXX
Just a very brief background on the watch;
This is one of the nicest, honest CK2998s I have even seen.
It has a super cool story and full provenance.
I acquired this watch directly from the original owner's son.
The original owner (Frank "Buck" Shaffer) was a musician who joined the US Air Force and served as a musician in the Air Force band.
He purchased this Speedmaster during his service in the Air Force where the band would travel from base to base to entertain the troops.
After leaving the Air Force, Buck taught music and was a bandleader in Porterville, CA for over 50 years.
His son (whom I purchased the watch from) made a short video about his father's life which can be seen here:
The watch will be accompanied by Buck Shaffer's autobiography book.
Now for the description of the piece itself:
Dial: Near flawless radium dial. The patina is just to die for. Lume plots are in excellent+ shape and hardly show any degradation or discoloration.
Hands: Original Radium hands in excellent shape.
Case: Straight lug symmetrical case. It might have been very lightly and superficially brushed on the sides. But I am more leaning towards not. The lugs are thick and even and the original case lines and contours are clearly visible.
Crown & pushers: Original pushers & Flat Foot crown. (Even though the pictures show the service crown this watch came to me with, I have already sourced and installed an original and correct "Flat Foot" crown).
Bezel: Very nice "DON" (Dot Over Ninety) TACHYMETRE bezel in excellent condition. Shows some minor wear as shown in pictures.
Bracelet: Omega 7077 with #6 end links and the original spring bars. Bracelet shows stretch and can be very easily tightened by a professional shop.
Movement: Omega Cal 321. Watch is running and keeping time. It could benefit from a service. It has a couple of service marks inside the caseback, but most likely has not been serviced in the past 20+ years.
I have chosen to leave the watch exactly as sourced from the original owner's family (Yes, with all the "wrist cheese" intact) for the next owner to do with it as they wish.
Accessories: Original owner's manual, Omega Extract Of The Archives, original owner's autobiography book, pictures of the original owner with the watch.
Notes: This is the best example of a CK2998-3 on offer at the moment. The watch being just an incredibly pleasing piece by itself, the full documented provenance is just the extra cherry on top of this already super sweet Sundae, and not something you find every day...
