Am I late to the party.............?

Well, lovely watch, great catch and in cracking condition. The EQ was sold until the mid 1970's so it's not unfeasable that it came on the n27 14mm deployment, I love these bands and have one on my ed white (a rally version) at the moment

I really don't think that strap choice necessarily needs to be absolutely right. As mentioned I have my 64 ed white on a mid 1970's chronostop rally at the moment, it looks awesome!
Tom, I can't see the pic of your EW on Rally!

The Chronostop came with a mesh or a Corfam strap (both on the adjustable clasp). Corfam was a synthetic leather made by DuPont.

Firstly the OP watch is amazing, correct strap or not, can I call dibs on it?
Secondly I have two chronostops that both came on leather deployment straps. Old catalogue pictures show them with rally straps, mesh bracelets, ordinary bracelets etc.

Don't stress over it. A strap is a consumable item and the only reason I have a good conditioned Corfam strap is because the original owner of one of my Chronostops decided, early on, that he would prefer the mesh - so he went to the jewelers and had it changed. I am left with the dilemma that I have one Chronostop (cal 920) with papers and one (cal 920) with box and papers and hang-tag - both with an original strap/mesh. It is the only double-up in my collection

OVDB states them as Corfam although, from old adverts, the mesh was an option.

Play nice, there's nothing wrong with someone questioning what the correct strap for a reference is, but similarly ensure you do so in a respectful way.

I think we crossed the line from questioning, and into dictating.

Which given I'd made no claims as to originality, was just straight up weird. 馃槈

I think otherwise, which is why I changed the title, someone presented an alternative theory and put it up for debate, there's nothing wrong with that.

Not to argue too much... 馃槈

But a different theory to: I bought a watch?

As I said, no claims made as to it being the strap it came on.

But that's where this ended up... An argument about straps. 馃檨

This forum is great. Not only is it entertaining but it's informative. Thanks to @tyrantlizardrex I just found a period correct deployant clasp for my Chronostop on eBay.

Why is the crown on the left side?

Left handed watch?

I think it was to stop the crown digging into your hand as the watch is quite hefty. And as Chris said, it would only be used occasionaly.

I have two hummers, one on the original bracelet and one on a replacement leather strap. I haven't touched the crowns for ages and they are still both within ten seconds from when I set them months ago.

One of the divers (SHOM) had a left crown too, referred to as a "Destro" (from memory).

The original design of the cases and the left crown was a specific design and marketing ploy at the time by Omega in that this watch as accurate to 5 seconds per months as opposed to the best chronometer movement by omega at the time of 3SPD and as such the owner would not need to regularly adjust the time.

That is the story I was given by the museum and also John Otenin-Giarard, the designer of the MQ 2.4Mhz who I also bought a B21 from

The one i sold many moons ago had the shark skin strap and the same clasp.

Original? I believe so, I bought it to the first owner who assured me the complete originality of the watch.

I think Accutron used some what the same line for their "back setters". Something like "since you will only need to set/adjust the time when you replace the battery, the setting stem is on the back. But in my case the 2 I have never need to be set/adjusted since neither of them work. 馃う :whipped:
