ok, lots of fun trawling but no luck finding a 196.005 with that 27 clasp, do you have a link ? Mine came on the strap seen here : http://www.kaplans.se/en/auktioner/2325/vara/836497

Hmm... That looks like a period correct Omega calf skin - I suspect there were a few options available, as in the 1970's, from what I've read, Omega were moving towards Dealers adding value with straps/bracelet.

I have a link to the advert for mine, but no claim was made as to it being NOS... and all the pictures from the listing are in this thread. 😉

I suspect mine has a variant of this fitted: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-OMEG...SHARKSKIN-20mm-Strap-BUCKLE-NOS-/381637602655

Wow that abouttime guy is really hitting hard on the price especially for what doesn't appear like an actual Omega strap (can't see any numbers on it). I got the correct NOS shark strap 1215 + 9K GP N.27 combo for the 18k 1510. I'm not aware of the GP 9k N.27 coming with another watch, maybe some mechanicals? The 1310s came with a thinner crocodile+N.27 combo.

I think we'll have to stick with the bracelet and calf skin + buckle for the 196.005 as original options for the 196.005 at this point ;-)

You can stick with whatever you like.

I'm happy with the watch I've bought... and that's all that matters.

I see, however many people come to these forums for reference purposes so if they're trying to figure out how the SS 196.005 Electroquatz with calibre 1300 was originally sold it matters that we have our facts straight and unless new information comes to light the actual options were :
- 1185/168 bracelet
- calf skin strap + buckle as seen above

One of those is fact - it definitely came on a bracelet.

The other is speculation, and relies on the acceptance that the strap that came on yours is original to the watch.

It fits, it came on one that you own, which was advertised as NOS - that doesn't mean that it was a) original to the watch or b) the only option.

On a separate note, it is possible to put across your view without being a)aggressive and b)condesending.

This is the second thread of mine where you've behaved in this way.

Please don't.

Nowhere have been aggressive and I can't see a good reason for you to get upset and start to make things personal (never goes down well in a forum) when simple facts are pointed out in the general interest of fans of Omega watches (or experiences shared like I did in that other thread that you're refering to)

As for the matter at hand, not only did my NOS 196.005 come on the calf skin strap + buckle but also on all others I've seen, including the one I linked above. if I come across a different combination I'll be sure to mention it here.

If you can't see why the absolute authority with which you make claims is aggressive, then there really is no help for you.

Even your last response is condescending.

The last time I checked, you weren't some sort of "omega police force", we've all seen the pictures that come up on google image search, but they sold 10k of these watches, very few of those are on the internet.

Quit with the absolute statements - unless you have 100% absolute facts.

Thanks.

I don't want to see the carnage when you two start going at it with those big chunks of 1970's steel battering rams...

.....Gentlemen, enough of this, Electroquartzes at dawn it is...last man standing decides which strap is period correct.

If you search Google with correct case reference number you will find your watch. It will help if you get the watch info from inside.
Rule number 1 of Omega Forums - repeating what someone else has said 2 posts back is not cool.

everyone should take care with how we speak to each other. A history of our respect or lack thereof is always here for review.

Unlike now in those days you could get any strap, buckle, bracelet that tickled your fancy. Any book or brochure can show you what the watch came from the Omega head office with but won't tell you what joe blogs left the Shop with.

We have seen too many receipts with old combo,s that were not thought of.

I have never heard of anything like Omega offering two different straps, at the same time, for a particular model of watch. I firmly believe they only had one kind of strap for the entire production period - and in the whole world. I believe that almost religiously. If it would be true that they actually had a choice of straps it would shake my world and I would have to reconsider everything. The earth being flat, etc.

Thinking about it I should probably burn this watch as a witch, just in case.

I wonder if it weighs the same as a duck?

You can send it to me and I will dispose of it securely. Trade for a cheese?

I'm not sure that the strap on your cheese is correct. Other cheeses I have seen do not have this strap.

The Chronostop came with a mesh or a Corfam strap (both on the adjustable clasp). Corfam was a synthetic leather made by DuPont.

Am I late to the party.............?

Well, lovely watch, great catch and in cracking condition. The EQ was sold until the mid 1970's so it's not unfeasable that it came on the n27 14mm deployment, I love these bands and have one on my ed white (a rally version) at the moment

I really don't think that strap choice necessarily needs to be absolutely right. As mentioned I have my 64 ed white on a mid 1970's chronostop rally at the moment, it looks awesome!

Cheers Tom.

I suspect this strap was one of the ones intended for a MQ... having seen them on the TV cased one in this size/style... But I'm with you, if it looks cool, do it.

Now to find a nice MC....
