I guess a better way to ask would be; are your watches in your will?

I'm sure most of our, mine included, wives, spouses or kids are not into watches like we are. They may not know the value either sentimental or monetarily of watch collection or what we want kept and what goes to who. And if we're being frank about it not getting ripped off if they sell. As my collection grows its too much value to not consider.

I'm assuming this is a question for my lawyer and I could probably specify just about anything I want but I was curious how the community addresses this. Do you have specific watches for specific people in your will? Do you outline what can be sold and what you wish to be kept? Is there anyway to help insulate them from getting ripped off?

Cheers, everyone.

I ran into the same thought several years ago. I decided to log all of her goodies (jewellery), and my watches, clocks, chronometers, etc. I prepared a catalog listing each item with a catalog number, photo, detailed description, value, and dispensation has per my wishes. I had no idea this project would take me two weeks (off and on), and result in a catalog with 38 pages, 6 items to a page. When you specify in the catalog how you wish the items be dealt with, all you need to say in your will is that you have prepared a codicil that your executor will follow. And make sure your executor has access to the list. Items you haven鈥檛 specified will go to your main heirs, and they can decide who gets what. Makes for a much simpler will.

This is fantastic, thank you. It really helps a lot.

Should imagine mine will end up being sold on for a pittance, since I told my wife I only paid 拢130.00 for them as a job lot off the bay,

I make sure to tell the young ones that the wife and I rewrite our will every year and leave it all to our favorite.

Every Festivus, in addition to the Airing of Grievances there will now be a reading of the will.

I think I have a new tradition.

The other thing is make sure someone knows where you've HIDDEN your watches in case you die.

Especially if they are hidden in a place that might get thrown away in the trash, like a sock drawer.

Same thing with your online passwords, etc.

If you don't want to directly tell them, then put the information into a sealed envelope and tell them to open the envelope if you die.

I've allocated in a Google sheet my watches including history of services to my nephews and niece and shared the document in Google drive with my brothers. It will be their decision whether they continue to wear them or sell them.
