Importing to the US

The OWME 1120 is not just for US. It started in Europe and eventually all Omega parts accounts worldwide have to take it. It is the same test that the examiner and trainer had to take. Even watchmakers with experience can fail the test because it is based on skill and time. Out of 5 watchmakers, only 3 of us passed the test.

Well aware of that - to clarify, I meant it was "new" to the US, and is "only" being done there at that time (not here). Even 18 months later, there's still no indication of this requirement coming to Canada, but if it does I'm not too worried about servicing an 1120.

As this is a revived thread: This is now obsolete information

If it's a Rolex , don't do it. It's illegal to import a Rolex by mail into the U.S. You can only import one at a time, hand-carried across the border with duties paid.

This isn't one of those "everyone looks the other way" rules. Customs will take your watch.

Ask the seller to describe the package as a faulty timepiece being returned for a refund. also ask them to send it the least expensive option with no insurance. The chances of any package getting lost in the system are negligible these days.
This is illegal and will get you in trouble my friend.

I'll give you a chance to increase your post count.
Exactly what law am I breaking by sending a faulty watch back to the seller for a refund?
I won't hold my breath waiting for you to reply.
Oh, by the way, I'm not your friend.

It is illegal because you are not really sending a faulty watch for repair. you were trying to smuggle a watch into the US which is a felony if you are not aware. you are very smart by posting it online. screen shot... smile youre on camera my friend lol

Good luck with that.
I am sure that at this very moment the Home Office is drawing up papers to extradite DTM to the USA for mislabeling a watch he sent to Kansas

President Elect Trump invited Prime Minister May to visit at her first opportunity. Perhaps she might bring a shackled DTM as a housewarming gift.

Actually,Trump called May to tell her to give him a call if she ever visited the US.
And don't worry, the Home Office have as much authority here as North Korea.
I'm safe for now.

You have seen it stated on here and have found an article describing it in detail. How much more confirmation do you need?

Just want some clarity, besides statements. And as for confirmation, as much as I want and need.

If you know more then please feel free to expand on the details, happy to hear.

Cheers.

Ps. If you read the article you will see it's 3 years old and does not go into specifics other than the first paragraph or so that refers to unnamed sources.

Just want to be on the right side of things. Appreciate the article if you can easily find it, otherwise dont worry, I'll do a Google trawl.
Hmm fair enough, I wasn't particularly helpful. I will leave you to find confirmation but I can tell you that the company I work for was unable to send a batch of pre-owned Rolexes into the USA until April 2015, after which they could so in my first hand experience it is correct.

This may be of use but I am not sure if it is definitive:

Thank you. I had read that, unless there is another. https://omegaforums.net/threads/non-us-sellers-on-ebay.17364/page-2#post-189135 this seemed pre any change referred to by the Crown & caliber article. I'll keep searching.

the confusion (past and not sure about recent) seems to be between import restrictions and Trade Mark protection and much of the previous debate I have been able to find turns on these two issues. It's interesting if nothing else. No point in overthinking it.
