The United States could indeed have adopted the metric system following its independence from Great Britain in 1776. Given the crucial support from France during the American Revolutionary War, it would have been a logical step to embrace the metric system, which was being developed in France around that time.

Yes Arabic numerals Indian in origin. Arabs also had a hand in inventing Algebra which made my middle school and high schools years hell.
