Indeed it is.
All the completely horrible Aston Martin colours (Harvest Gold anyone?) are coming back as buyers tire of Silver, or BRG.or even the Aston green.
Couldn't seem to find a good example of this harvest gold.
But a nice eggshell blue, Ferrari red, there's even been some beautiful electric greens and oranges recently.
Basically what I'm getting to is anything but brown please!

did anyone actually call josh and ask what the price is?? he's really easy to reach by phone, email and IG DM 馃榾

fwiw (and i have stated on previous threads) i love working with these guys. .they'll take nearly anything vintage or modern as a trade, and i think they are honorable even if not super experts on every vintage watch and model. asking prices are high but they are always willing to negotiate and they stand behind what they sell, which i cannot say for many dealers at all. i don't know of another dealer where i can walk in with a modern iwc pilot's watch, a vintage zenith, and a new speedmaster, and some cash, and walk out with an fp journe or rolex daytona (new or vintage)

all that said, i have seen the 2998 in question and while i don't have any thoughts on originality to add to those experts on the thread. . i didn't love the look of it either and was more along the lines of kelev_ra's comment and just a gut feeling no quibbles with the watch itself. it just doesn't pop the way some 2998's do

yet another reason why always, always, always try and lay eyes on a watch before buying. there was a comment on a for sale thread about heuer camaro 7220NT that sold today. . you can put 10 of them next to each other and most are very flat but when you find a tropical dial on that model that pops it just POPs. same idea here

Without considering the technical part, but only how appears this watch, i can say without any doubt that what makes this watch less attractive is the way it was photographed.
The light is too strong and makes appear the watch not that much attractive, it is more intend to show as much possible details instead making the watch more attractive. Another set up or a warmer light would have made a huge difference.

Despite the conversation if the hands or lume are correct, i really believe that this watch would probably look better in a different set up or under natural light.

I have recently on atleast three separate occasions (maybe more) tried to make a deal with EWC and each time they have not moved not even a little on asking price which everytime was already higher than many other dealers and private sellers. The reason I was trying to work a deal with them is because I know they take vintage for trades and no other seller either took trades or modern trades only.

The last trade I was trying to work, the communication was sporadic at best. I know Josh just had a baby so I can definitely forgive him/EWC for that. Hopefully soon I can have the same sentiment as you when it comes to EWC.

I second @jhross98 comments on EWC - yes they are usually a touch more expensive on many pieces, but there is a lot of value in their willingness to trade, and above all their willingness to take back pieces they have sold to you. It amazes me how some dealers are just in it for a quick trade, then run for the hills as soon as they have your cash.

Interesting that the Patek 3448J right above it is publicly priced at $219k but for this one you have to call them for the price.

Harvest Gold! That brings back the 70s straightaway, and the ultimate machine 馃槻 - I give you the Morris Marina:

I even turned down an MGB back then because it was Harvest Gold...

At least there were some cool colours (purple, green, orange) as well back then; my first car (MG) was BRG. Down under, these days the only options are generally only white, white, white, grey, white, silver and white.

I wouldn't recognise a "good" 2998-1 if it kicked me up the arse, but I know which one is attractive to me.馃槙 (edited)

Lighting a factor in pics here too

Always is when comparing a black dial Speedy with a brown dial Speedy.

The brown ones look a different shade every time you photograph them. This one taken today, at the seaside, in natural light.

'Nuffink' wrong with white cars... as long as you wash them regularly. This thing made me smile more than any other car I owned.馃グ

Nice watch but not $157,000 worth in my view. Then again I think I am just getting increasingly out of touch with the price of watches; vintage or modern. Perhaps it is just my tight Yorkshire traits showing through 馃榾
