Lume color looks a little too orange, and thus a bit suspect to me. Also, the freshness of the subdial and chrono hands seems out of place with the beat up bezel. To me, this doesnt smell original.

I agree with @kidkimura. It is interesting that they do not mention the subdial hands in any of their description. I think they know but are trying to pull the wool over our eyes.

Judging by the lume texture and degradation, I would say it looks original. In the close up macro shots it does not appear as Orange, and actually pretty similar to my 2915-3 in color.
Subdial hands appear to have been re-painted in the past.

I would say the lume itself looks original, the color however, to me, does not. I am just one dude, but if I'm spending whatever kind of money this requires, I would want to buy something that has a pretty clear provenance.

For what it's worth, I've seen lume on many Speedies of this era age to a similar shade. The lume also does not strike me as having been re-done at some point - you would see a much more uniform thickness, if so.

You must have some nice BASE1000 bezels if that's a beat up one.

Subdial hands look like they have been repainted

My vote is the dial is original, but the lollipop lume is not.
The subdial hands may well be original, or repainted. I would have to see them.
You would have thought they would have sorted out the pusher.
    Anyone found the price yet?

Anyone think the hour/minute hands with squared off lume are replacements?
If so, how much would this diminish value?

Otherwise I think dial/ lume original. Repainted sub hands and relumed lollie for me not such a big deal.
    This will go for plenty!

Price on request and EWC isn't exactly shy about posting huge asks on their website so I can only imagine what they are listing this for.

How can you have provenance that something isn't relumed?

"I owned this from new, and never got it relumed. What is a relume anyway? I just had it in drawer for the last 50 years"

    From EWC description

"all luminous material on the dial appears to be original, bright and unaltered"

"Outstanding original condition for a very historically important Omega reference. The watch was purchased from the grandson of the original owner."

These older ones are so difficult to find in nice condition, some flaws in most. Lume is hard to tell unless a poor job as many shops specialize in color matching and lume material.

Considering what's been said about the watch so far, what would be the market value for it nowadays?

An example of 2998-1 with lollypop hand was sold at Phillips TWO years ago for 85k, but that was a tropical one.
The price chart on Speedmaster 101 states that a 2998-1 should be 85k for a perfect example, due the fact that the second hand appears to be relumed, maybe a price could be close to that 85k?

But i might have said bunch of B.S too;)

i don't think they're squared off... but if they were, somewhere around $2500/$3000 for a proper set, though the impact on value for lack of them would probably be more, IMHO.

    Remember per speedmaster101:

"This Chart is for MOTIVATED COLLECTORS. The prices here DO NOT reflect retail prices (as found in Vintage Watch Shops), or often not even dealer prices all of which are often 20%-100% higher."
