Reposting this per request of the legitimate account owner.

IG Account Hacked - Milwatchcollector
Beware, my Instagram account under @milwatchcollector has been hijacked and the people behind it have changed the user name to @_milwatchollector1 (for now) and put up posts on bad investment advice. Please be wary of any interactions from that account, especially if it involves anything financial or asking for screen shots. If we had any exchanges or dealings through DM, please delete the information. I’m trying to get it restored.

I'm amazed that people keep falling for this.

If someone sends you a message, asking you to give them your phone number, so they can send it a link, and then you can screen shot the link and send it back to them, why on earth would you say yes?

What about that request does not sound incredibly suspicious?

I have been exiled from my home in Ubekezlanakiroslav and my funds have been frozen. I will give you my bank routing number and if you can transfer $500k into it, I will reimburse you $3m once I am solvent again.

Also, you may already be a millionaire! If you buy 15 magazine subscriptions, you will be entered into the final drawing for 1 million dollhairs. Act fast!

A friend, who was hacked, had the hacker send out messages to all on his "followers" list. If he had not messaged us (via Whatsapp), one could easily assume it was legit.

That’s how this works, social engineering, and frankly, you would have to either be new to the internet or dumber than a box of frogs to fall for it.

I unfollowed this account the moment the scam ‘investment advice’ became a hot topic and sole output. 2FA folks….it’s 2022…

This was my own reply to a dm offering weird investment advice.

The owner was able to recover his account.

Meanwhile another IG user posted something to the effect that some of those hackers are asking the account owners for ransom in order to recover their account.

PS I edited out the initial version of this post to remove some personal info the hacker had sent out, as I’m told those are often stolen identities.

I dont understand how this is still happening. is it still the same process that people are using to get control of the account. Figured this would be widely known.

I don't understand how this happens, rather, how it works. The whole screenshot of a link request. I'd like it explained but I guess would rather not let more people learn how to do it.

Is this the same old trick to get you to open a link that downloads a virus?

It does seem pretty odd.
