I won’t let you run out of wood @Archer

I have lots. And it’s dry too. Lots of meat for the Weber also.

My in laws on Deer isle in Maine couldn’t get their generator started when we had that -50 windchill. Something like 100 homes had similar issues. Terrible when your backup plan fails :-/

In Vermont we’re getting some snow and ice, not as much as Archers area. Everyone stay safe and warm!

Always great to be prepared, hopefully it's not needed. Good luck to everyone in the path. News and weather stations always seem to spin the worst possible scenario for ratings sake.

About 4-5 days before Christmas this year they were predicting up to 26 inches of snow around Chicago. We wound up having less than 2 inches.

Deer Isle ... very close to my family destination tomorrow (Castine). I spent Christmas of 2013 in an apocalyptic ice storm there with my parents. Their generator worked, but we kept having to go out for fuel. Great memory.

We're looking at 10 inches of snow and freezing rain in the next two days. In Fairbanks Alaska, freezing rain never happened until the last few years.

Welcome to life in the Mid-Atlantic.

About a decade ago there was an environmental impact study done by the National Park Service (I used to work for them). The study revealed that at the rate of climate change at the time (from studies and research in the parks) that the environment at the latitudinal line across Chicago, IL would be similar to that of Baton Rouge, LA within 25 years. Move that same line up for you in AK and there ya go. Nothing to see here though.

It’s one weird winter we are having. I don’t normally like to kill anything other than mosquitoes and ticks but I am allergic to these things. I think it came from the chimney when @DaveK was visiting.

I feel for y'all battling the cold and foul weather, so to bring a bit of the tropics to ya here is a shot of a few of our watch-hunting fast females* in the south pacific 😁

Fred, is that a good roof? Does it hold up well in high winds? How often does it need to be repaired?

Yes, I was wondering about the roof too as well as the variety of clouds in the photo. Are those Cirrus or Cumulus?

It looks like all the ladies have blisters on their left heel as they can't put them down on the floor, probably from all the miles walked in the search of treasure for Fred!

We had a bit of snow… then some freezing rain to ice things over… and now it’s snowing again. Birds are taken care of and it’s nice to be home.
