This is still a work in progress.....
The Things With Springs Clubhouse room is meant for a Live watch forum experience with a small GTG. We are striving for a collector to collector conversation.. Having collectors either email me a photo of their watch ( or they can join the forum and reply to this thread ) so we can " chat" about it in real time... Just to be clear we dont have to talk about a posted watch ... this is a free flowing room on topics on vintage watches and things around watch collecting ... And at the end of the GTG when everyone leaves the CH room... and the room no longer exists ... This thread will remain as a quasi record of the event and we can later go back and refer to.... Hear you at 3:00 pm DST Sunday ....

Things with Springs Vintage Watch Chat CH 10/25/26

Join the room !

The cyma. Post on Facebook

Hello everyone

Ok another roll a few more watches !

For your consideration…. Cyma !

I have a thing about screwback cases ( waterproof , dicers , sports watches ) ,Chronometre rated movements and when possible the combination of the two ! It gets me going….

For example you see that in the previous posts on Zenith watches.

But what makes this grouping special ..

I came across a manual wind Chronometre in a 18k gold screwback case . Even Omega in the 1940s did not have a 30T2Rg or 30T2SCRg in a gold screwback case ( have not figured that one out ) but they did make automatic chronometres in a precious metal cases. ( Yes in the 1960’s they did make a manual wind in precious metal with caliber 602 ). Just an observation.

Back to the Cyma watches .. they had a sports line under the heading “ Navystar” and I came across two examples one in steel and one in gold ! The gold example was nice condition but someone serviced the watch and took short cuts to say the lest. …. More on that a little later .

Both of the Chronometre are powered by a Cyma Chronometre rated R.466 . Sometimes they are marked “adjusted “ or “Adj in 5 post and temp “ … not necessarily needs to be there . BUT the movement MUST HAVE A SERIAL NUMBER . For it to be tested at a Chronometre …. So if you find a watch with a Chronometre signed dial and the movement does not have a serial number .. it raises questions … But that is another topic of discussion…

First up the the steel Chronometre in all its glory …. Approx 36 mm in diameter and has 19 mm lugs and was lucky to find an original stretch link Cyma bracelet for it !

The gold example I was happy to get. It was a “ net “ purchase it looked likes it pics but was hard to set and wind ….

I decided to send both chronometers to my friend in the UK to Mitka Engebretsen is a watchmaker and has a passion for Cyma ! … I met him on Clubhouse where I a weekly chat room “vintage watch chat “ it was started during Covid and we are down to a small group of people many years later …

Mitka surprised me as he recorded the service of the watch and he posted it on YouTube ! You will see the errors done by prior “ shoemakers “ that worked on the watch . I will try I include a link .. you can always search on You Tube “ Mitka cyma “ look for the cyma Chronometre video.

I also included a nos Cyma Divingstar , the lum on the dial was breaking down and when I got it it had it original caseback sticker but I wear my watches and sweated most of the label off !

Have a great Sunday !

Good hunting and spread the passion
