Doesn’t Magnus/Stefan still deserve a consequence from the law?
Sure - but I’m not a prosecutor in Iceland. The legal side of things will play out the way it’s going to play out. If I were him I would not be sleeping easy knowing that he is the current suspect to a criminal investigation for an offense he is clearly guilty of. Even as arrogant has he likely had gotten pulling off some heists, he likely isn’t stupid enough to commit another scam while under scrutiny...
Ultimately, I’m pleased with the outcome. As an non-interested party (who was super interested), I’m glad the scammer returned the watch and I’m content with this lovely post being the first thing that pops up when you enter his name on google. I think it would highly appropriate for him to give an apology and return the other pieces and money he has stolen, but that may never happen.
I have spent some time thinking about this scam over the past few days and the other scams he orchestrated. Quite frankly, for all the effort he put in, he didn’t get away with much (no offense rohu I think you have a fine watch). The scams were quite small, a $1k here and there as compared to people who mug a guy wearing a Rolex or the Peruvian who almost got away with $4,500 of mine after sending an empty envelope.
This does not absolve him by any means, but quite frankly I feel a bit sorry for him. Not sorry in the sense he didn’t deserve this thread and backlash, or doesn’t deserve getting arrested and spending some time with the thugs in the jailhouseI, but I feel a bit sorry for him that somewhere in his collecting he felt the need to rob others for his collection.
I peg him as a young guy without much money who is really into watches. Sheesh the guy was on here for months bantering about crap just like everyone else. He has done that with multiple accounts on multiple forums for years. Somewhere along the line he saw other members as means to an end to grow his collection.
