Thank you. It does seem to have the correct bezel, step face, and case back along with an 116 series band. At least you guys helped me with the basics! I will purchase the reference book...thanks again to all.

oops....here is the photo!
This is exactly what I think of when I say that seventies speedmasters offer the best balance of patina, vintage appeal, robustness and serviceability.

What a great find.

Bracelet is out of time but hey, if your happy it's not a big deal. At least I think it is, bracelets not my thing, but that watch definately is.

is the bracelet correct for this watch? From what I read on the reference guides to Speedmasters, it is correct....is it not?

I like it - really cool bezel patina 馃憤 Good price too, not a huge steal but around the low end of the right range I'd say.

Interesting bezel wear. That dent probably would have scared me off. Not to be negative, but from what I've seen recently, it would be entirely possible to get a standard post-1980 moonwatch in the range of $1900-$2100 on ebay. I got mine (less than 1-year old) for $2150.

That's true, but the 145.022-7x (his is a 145.022-71) is worth a bit more than a post-78 Moonwatch, especially if it's on a bracelet. I'd say the average piece (good condition, not untouched and no accessories ) goes for a median of around 2400 these days, with slight premiums for earlier models (71, 74) and for bracelets.

His has a very attractive patina going on though, and would likely bring a few hundred more.

Given the fact that it's been serviced, the price seems more than reasonable, yes?

I'd be all over that at $2300 because of that bezel insert. If it truly has been properly serviced, I'd consider that a bonus. Well done

+1 Well done! Huge fan of these early 70's. Easily serviced, stepped dial and tend to age fairly well. Great values! Wear mine quite often and am always impressed with the dial.

He said it was serviced by the seller, and guaranteed by the dealer--so in other words it sounds like the person who sold it to his dealer CLAIMED it had been serviced. I'd take that with a grain of salt. A servicing to someone could easily just mean a gasket change and look-over, rather than the full-servicing you'd get from omega (or could have sprung for one of their limited servicing's that runs for less than $200). I'd nod and smile, but I wouldn't pay extra for a used watch that a dealer claims has been serviced by the previous owner...

My mistake, I glossed over and didn't realize that was a 71. Pretty good price then, and I wouldn't be surprised if people liked that bezel--but I'm probably in the minority in saying that I'd buy a new bezel and stick the faded one up on ebay 馃榾 I can't stand cosmetic wear on bezels for some reason.

The seller is the dealer who does the service.....I was not clear as to that. So the man who sold it to me, did the service, and is the one backing up the guarantee....he has been in the same location 30 years, and he looks like he will, happily, be here a good bit longer!

A cleaner bezel would dress it up to be sure.....I would probably keep both, just for fun. What would a clean proper Omega bezel for this watch cost?

Thumbs up then 馃榾 A 1-year guarantee should be sufficient to find out if it was serviced poorly!

Fortunately it's not too much since you only need to buy the insert (unlike the SMP's). I've seen them go for under $200 in some cases (usually $250-$300). If you're willing to put on an aftermarket (almost identical) for general use, those can be had in the $20-$40 range.

Another option is putting a screen protector on the bezel, no more worrying about scratches. I know of a person who will custom-cut zagg protectors to fit bezels--I may do that for my moonwatch.

.

In our little community, "almost identical" is what its all about.

those aftermarket inserts are awful.

Secondly the inserts are not as exchangeable as Rolex are. The bezels are really intended to be replaced as a unit, not an insert.

If you're willing to put on a fake insert (in no way identical) for general use, those can be had in the $20-$40 range.
.

Fixed it for you
