Two questions about magnets and watches: is it true that if your watch is magnetized, and you hold a compass over it, the needle will move?
Yes. If the watch is magnetized, the movement of the needle will make that very obvious.
Also, will the part of the laptop that can magnetize a watch be obvious because small bits of metal will be attracted to it, or does it take far less of a magnetic field to magnetize a watch?
If you move a compass around over a laptop or tablet, it will show you that there's a magnetic field all over it, although it's much stronger in some areas. I don't know that the speakers are the only sources of magnetism; but if they are, I think it's a magnetic field that strong enough to affect your watch anywhere on the device. I don't think the field is limited to the immediate proximity of the precise internal source of magnetism. I don't even keep my phone in my left pocket, because it's too close to my left wrist.
I’ve found out @Archer has talked about magnets and compasses at length.

Here is at least 11 references from @@Archer explaining a compass doesn’t work.

I defer to Archer on everything watch-related, but this just doesn't comport with my anecdotal experience: Whenever my watches have been magnetized, the compass needle jumps around like crazy. After demagnetization, the compass needle doesn't budge. This includes my Flightmaster, even with a huge chunk of steel for a case.

I can attest to this. I have tried it at a handful of airports to gauge how the process would be and each time, the TSA agent manually searched with upon request. There was more resistance from them if it was super busy but they still did it.

I always ask for a hand inspection, they will comply and do a swipe test. Never had a problem, big or small.
If it is busy, then it will really slow you down though.
I get more resistance from my family about being "special" at the TSA.

Same! My wife always let out a huge sigh when it was that time. She would have passed through security long before me.
