after I forgot my 2225.80.00 Seamaster Chronograph under the sun for some hours I saw some marks on the sapphire glass. I didn’t know it was coated so I tought it was water marks so I went to the Omega service and they charged me approximately 200 usd for the glass. I said thats fine but then they told me I had to pay additional 300 usd to assemble it. I live in Turkey by the way. It’s too much for the glass so I wanted to think for a while. Then I saw 30.5 x 3 mm sapphire glass for 25 usd on Aliexpress. I found out it is ar coating issue so I ordered uncoated sapphire. Since I ordered a new one I could do whatever I want on this glass so I took it out and tried nitric acid, didn’t work. Tried acetone, it slightly reduced. Then I tought this is a sapphire glass. It is difficult to scratch it so I used my waterproof sand papers on it. I used 600-1000-1200-2500 and 3000. I took the coat off and it’s crystal clear now. There is no scratched.

So I cancelled my order. Original glass is 30.5 x3.32 mm. I’m glad I’m still using original glass and get rid off with that meaningless ar coat. Why someone coats an unscratchable precious glass with a scratchable material? I know it is for anti reflection but it still doesn’t feel right. So as a prize for myself I ordered a Casio MDV 106 Kermit with steel bracelet. Maybe I will put a sapphire glass on it, uncoated.

Wet and dry paper is good for removing scratches in acrylic crystals too. These deep ones was gone in no time.
