i recently found my grandfathers engagement watch. it is a Croton, over 90 years old , and in wonderful working and aesthetic condition. it is my new favorite old watch. keeps great time. very thin and art deco-ish in style. no one i know is sharing my enthusiasm over this discovery, so I thought i would just do a little share here.

Holding the "Roaring 20's" in your hand, along with your Grandparents hearts.
A lot of my fascination with the old watches is the story they tell.
Enjoy in good health!

Absolutely wonderful, those are the treasures to keep. Congratulations.

As PP's famous words adapted, "you never actually own a watch. You merely look after it for the next generation".

Keep the moto.

I really like wholesome inscriptions, and whoever inscribed it also did so by not reducing the watch's value too - but I personally like seeing names

There's this one watch that I keep wishing that I bought, I forgot the watch, forgot what exactly the inscription said, but it was a 40's, pre 40's watch with something like "With Love, From Dorothy to Bob" or something like that - kabaclyde was selling it - made me wish I had someone care enough to buy me a watch and get it inscribed too 😀

I couldn't agree more. I have quite a few watches inscribed like that and would never consider them less valuable or have the engravings removed. They are a part of the watches' history and were at one time a family heirloom. What breaks my heart is finding examples of these at flea markets.

I feel the same way when I find inscriptions or letters in books- the letters stay in the book.

This absolutely wonderful. Thanks for sharing. I think of all the life and events this watch has gone through. All the little events to larger ones and how the world has changed during that.
