I never realised how much Omega's nato straps suck....

I was torn when buying my Seamaster 300M recently. It was a toss up between the black and steel Seamaster I bought or a Breitling Superocean Heritage with Blue face and Black DLC case with Nato.

Chose the Omega as was just amazing on the bracelet, but ironic that I am still drawn to the Nato.

I guess the beauty is that I can have both, by buying it with the bracelet from the start. The sales guy certainly gave great advice!

Still fancying a Breitling mind you.

I like the Omega NATOs, but given the quality of available options like ToxicNATOs and the C&B Chevrons for 30.00 or so, can't really justify the cost for my purposes -- although even the Erika MNs are getting pricey.

The best of the OEMs I've tried is the leather-backed green fabric that IWC makes for its pilot line, which is both very comfortable and very durable -- but, again, costs around 200 clams, IIRC.

any cloth material touching the human skin must be washed at a reasonable interval, usually wearing for a few days the most (24-48 hours)
Too true... I take my natos and chuck them in the wash, they’ve always come out looking like new.

and before anybody feels the need to ask, YES... its a bad idea to put your Speedmaster and/or dive watch through the wash. Take the stupid thing off the strap before tossing the strap in the wash.

and don’t shower with it either!

although my wife did put her Timex through the wash a few times before it finally cried enough....

I'm so confused by this as I have done the exact same thing and had the complete opposite result.

I found the Omega NATO's to be fantastic quality, the perfect thickness and beautiful to the touch. I've got polyamide, leather backed nylon, polyester and leather NATO's from Omega.

Yes, the leather ones wearing a bit quick, and the polyester ones are probably not to everyone's taste, but the polyamide and leather backed nylon ones are well beyond any other NATO I own, or have owned in the past. They make the Tudor ones look like an eBay $10 special.

I've had my Bond grey/black since they came out (it must be 5 years old, give or take now, I can't remember), and it's had a heap of wear, including in swimming pools, oceans, etc. It quite literally looks like the day I purchased it. It's comfortable, soft, clean and not a loose thread to speak of.

The leather/nylon one has taken over as my daily the last couple of years and apart from some desk diving swirls on the buckle, it to looks like it is brand new. Admittedly, I keep that one out of the pool/ocean, but still, it's handled the years far better than the bracelet has.

I have 3 Strapify NATO's at home and I only ever use one (a particular one) if I'm doing some laps and even then, I hate it. It looks about ten years old and would be lucky to have been worn more than 100 times. It's also had more than a few tidy-ups with a lighter to stop fraying and wayward threads. I always noticed that the strapify were shorter too, which is a pain with larger wrists.

With what you've written, maybe they have changed their supplier of late, but I'm not game to try them again to find out.

Your reply has made me consider whether I need to give it more of a chance. Maybe it softens and breaks in a little … maybe I’ll come around to it.
Thats the great thing about nato’s. It’s takes less than 30 seconds to change them over.

..... to put your Speedmaster and/or dive watch through the wash. ...

it is ok to put the watches in washer / dish washer, until it is not ok ::stirthepot::

manufacturers like that 😁

I love these, it’s thinner than the cotton ones, almost makes the watch feel nonexistent. I have two other nato straps that are just plain thick and bulge out and everything you mention, but these I prefer them over the bracelet sometimes!

I hate the thick hardware too! My Strapify ones have huge bulky hardware that annoys the life out of me. I think the Omega hardware is the perfect blend of being robust and strong, without being too bulky.

Wrists are like any other body part, they're all different, and I can understand that one strap or bracelet might be perfect for one person and not another, but for me and my 300mc, the Omega NATO's are hands down the best I've tried, and I've tried a lot.

Stupid money, $250 is an obscene price as far as I'm concerned. But if that's the price of OEM quality, fit and finish, I'll grudgingly pay it. Especially on a nearly $10,000 dollar watch.
